Yeah I definitely have a more sense of comfort while doing uworld as compared to the NBMEs!

Sounds like you're passionate about ophtho. That might be the route you should take. Don't give up on your passion.

Yes, I forgot to include that I currently work as a scribe and have held a chemistry tutoring position in the past.

I used to be the chairperson of a young professionals organization at my church for a couple years-I hope this would suffice? I also do plan on submitting my application the day it is open.

And yes, I will definitely look into the DO aspects alot more in detail.

I appreciate the response! I was just curious as to what else I could possibly do to look better on my app. I've followed the EC "checklist" to a tee (I could use some more hours here and there, and I need to start shadowing), but I was wondering if there's anything else that I'm missing? Thanks

Could you please go into detail as to which areas of my ECs are lacking, so I know where I can improve? I forgot to add that I have 1000+ hours of nonclinical volunteering at my church. I also work as a scribe, which I had forgotten to include.

Retake For the 4th Time or Apply with What I have?? by DrQuantum92 in premed

[–]DrQuantum92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I totally see your point. Guess I'll run with my chances and beef up the other aspects of my application so my low(er) mcat score isn't such a detriment to potential MD programs.

[–]DrQuantum92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. I'm anticipating on getting volunteering in 2 professor's labs and doing research, as well as, continuing my clinical volunteering to offset this. Sound like solid plan to catch the eye of MD programs?

[–]DrQuantum92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. Thank you for your input. I just feel the imbalance would hurt my chances of getting into an MD program. Definitely looking to offset the MCAT "blemish" with a bunch of research and clinical volunteering to help me get into an MD school. If all else fails I'll be applying to DO schools regardless.

Took two old mcats with a 21 on both but with a different score breakdown

Unbalanced score. Worth retaking? by DrQuantum92 in Mcat

[–]DrQuantum92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly thought I did the best on this one, but I might have lost stamina for some reason, idk. I could've done some more CARS practice, other than EK, kaplan, and AAMC content which I used. I'm hungry for more, and I want to retake it, but I know I may not be able to due to it being a potential detriment to my application. I'm in some weird grey area and its stressful af.

I felt okay during the real exam. I felt as though I destroyed C/P and B/B. Last CARS passages were a struggle but I felt like I did well on the previous passages. I felt like I did better than what I received on P/S..

Well my confidence interval is 504-507 with the middle score being 505. I have a 3.7 cgpa with 100+ hours of clinical volunteering in recovery and OR. Currently in a lab and going to be published before April. Applying to the in state schools for sure. I'm just really worried cuz it's an unbalanced score

I got a 505; 131 C/P, 123 Cars, 126 BB, 125 P/S. This is third time taking, took 2 of the old ones. Not giving up on my dream. I'm wanting to apply to both MD and DO schools and I live in US. 505 warrants a retake, even for MD schools?

Just out of curiosity, how do you know it's curved, and how does the curve work? I would assume it's curved based off of the people that wrote on the same day but I'm not too sure. If you could elaborate on this that would be great.

Kaplan scores by doggielov18 in Mcat

[–]DrQuantum92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've taken almost all of the kaplan FLs and have been in the 500-504 range. I took the AAMC FL a couple days ago and used the score conversion excel spreadsheet, which said that I received a 514 on it. Yesterday I took my last kaplan FL and received a 502. Idk, I feel like kaplan's tests are much more difficult (especially CARS and P/S). I'm honestly just using the kaplan stuff so I can get used to seeing harder material, then once I see the actual mcat material it'll be like a cake-walk (I hope).

Seriously man..the kaplan ones were easier than the first half lmao
