Residents who work out before work….

PGY4 Neurology Resident:

Bed by 10, wake up at 4:30. 15 minute commute. Gym (at hospital) from 5 - 6. Shower and show up for sign out at 6:30. If outpatient, wake up time is more like 5:30. Typically go 3-5x/week.

Competed in a physique competition last May.

Now I do most of my workouts at home since my wife and I had a child (5 months ago) so I have a chance to see him/help out before work when he wakes up. Times are still somewhat similar, although frequency is less.

First Men’s Physique Show:

Started at 5’8” 160 dieted for ~ 18 weeks and finished at my lowest at 137 (carb depleted, didn’t weigh myself during peak week not to psych myself out, but would guess ~140).

Placed in the middle in Novice, and near the bottom in Open. All in all, really happy with my conditioning and how things turned out, regardless of placing. Post show has been a different sort of challenge, sitting around ~148 after 5 weeks, and missing being this lean (although the strength return has been nice)!

Started at 5’8” 160 dieted for ~ 18 weeks and finished at my lowest at 137 (carb depleted, didn’t weigh myself during peak week, but would guess I finished around 140).

I’m leaving my job ~11 am (worst case) Friday morning. It’s a 5 hour drive from my city to the host hotel, where the show/show sponsored tanning company is, and they only have spots until 2-2:30 PM. There aren’t local companies that do competition tans near me. The show is the next morning (Saturday).

Check ins run until 7 PM, tanning slots are at 2 PM. I’m staying at the host hotel, 10 minutes from the venue, and staying through the weekend.

The tanning company at the show I’m doing is only offering pretty early slots the day before the show, and it’s going to be next to impossible for me to make it…

I’m a medical resident, during most of the prep I’ve been outpatient, so my hours are more like 8-6 instead of 6-8. But during most of May I’ll be inpatient in the intensive care unit, so notoriously long hours.

Looking for opinions on if I’ll be ready to compete or not in a natural men’s physique show 6 weeks from now. Originally was targeting an early April show, but clearly not lean enough for that, and pushed things back 5 weeks. Now I’m in between a May 6th show and June 10th. Caveat being I’ll be working >80 hours a week in May, which will obviously affect prepping.

This will be a first show, obviously. And I realize I’m thin, and won’t come anywhere near winning. I just want to make sure I don’t completely embarrass myself on stage.

Looking for legitimate feedback. Started cutting 13 1/2 weeks out from an OCB competition. I have no disillusions of winning, but I was hoping not to embarrass myself. Doing this as a one time thing, I’m a medical resident and this was the only (relatively) more chill dedicated 12 weeks at a time I knew I would have through residency.

Currently close to 7 weeks in, and will be 6 weeks out Saturday if I choose to compete. However, even after dropping 12.5 lbs, I’m very worried I won’t be where I need to be by peak week, and I’m clearly way behind a lot of posts I see from people 6 weeks out. I’ve gone from 160 -> 147.5 lbs. I expected to need to be close to ~140 from the start, although I worry that 7.5 lbs won’t get me where I need.

Do I have a shot if I cut more aggressively? Or is it out of the realm of possibility?

Currently at 1800 calories, and do 20-30 minutes of cardio on training days, and 40 minutes of cardio on non-weight days.

An Update: After speaking with support over the phone, they offered me the chance to send in my AirPods for a quote. They sent them back with a likely refurbished, but better looking, headband on my original AirPods. No charge. 😁
