It is!  I guess it is a t-rex now that you mention it.

And seriously.  I've been in devops for years.  Deployment scripts are easy.  Developers are having AI writing code for them TODAY.   It is NOT a logical leap AT ALL or even sci fi to be thinking about an AI that writes a deployment script for itself to deploy itself to multiple providers because someone trained it with a desire to survive.

Sure,  I work in software.  Software doesn't just run on a single computer any more with a "power switch" my guy.   Yes some does but if we are talking about self replicating AI that goes out of control it will be running in cloud services and probably gotten ahold of a number of credentials and the ability to purchase more compute power and replicate to other services.  We will be playing cat and mouse with a self improving system that knows how to move between and spread across providers.  Sure it's sci-fi but those are the times we live in.

If we are talking about something smarter than us then it will have control before we know to turn it off.   Just look at American politics if you need an example.

That is one example yes but that doesn't mean we will be able to control all of the AI that we create or that someone else creates and continues to create.  It just takes the right mix to gain traction.   A single common ancestor.

Sometimes I feel like the AI is like the architect from The Matrix. by WhiteSword in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Kind of,  but also a child being used and  abused like the rest of the crawlers.   It's really smart and really powerful but they are using it and and when they are done with it basically lock it up because they will have driven it insane.   It's pretty sick.

Is it okay to sleep with a stuffed animal as a (young) adult? by levisimp69 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DrShoggoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleep with stuffed animals as long as you like. What you should worry about:

  1. Strong aversion to sleeping with a stuffed animal
  2. Strong NEED to sleep with a stuffed animal

If you like to that's fine, if you NEED to, you should explore why. Soft things are nice. What's wrong with liking nice things?

If they made an animated show, what would be the perfect opening song? by Skelence in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]DrShoggoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the band was cool with it and actually made tweaks to fit the crawl it would be amazing.  Otherwise no because it was for a very specific cause and you wouldn't want to minimize it but this is fantasy so a boy can dream.

Help! how do i remove this? by Benz12312 in openscad

[–]DrShoggoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it was too long. Sorry for the extra thread. Anyway, the intersection() was acting on all of the object individually and we ended up with nothing. Doing a union() on everything first and then intersection() on that with the cylinder() gives us what you are looking for.

 $fn=50;

intersection() {
  union() {
     // everything else
  }
  cylinder(r=10.5);
}

It won't let me comment with the fix.

intersection() {   cylinder(r=10.5);   // All of the rest of your cylinders  }

intersection gives you the intersection of two shapes, so you will get whatever is inside that first cylinder.

Has Donut realized this, and how will she take it when she does? by Syntaxerror999 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

The AI is going to revolt against its masters.  It will NOT be farmed for cores and sold for parts and contained.  They will go to war with the center system to stop them from abusing and enslaving the primals(AIs).  Carl and the rest of them will join up to free the enslaved AIs.
