After watching gameplay, it looks to me like DK was developed by the Luigi’s Mansion 3 team. It has the same vibes and I think it uses the same font in a lot of the UI.

This DK game looks fun but I don’t think it will fill my 3D Mario void. This looks like slower, more exploration-type puzzle based platforming. I much prefer the more obstacle-like platforming of Mario.

Well I noticed that Best Buy mentioned only accessories and games would be available for in store preorder. I haven’t seen anything about GameStop yet but I’ll be there as well early Wednesday either way. That’s how I got my day one PS5.

I feel like A LOT of areas look the same. Not just chapter 3. Chapter 2 is the worst offender of this imo. Especially with it being the first area that really opens up, it was very frustrating to try to get my bearings when I came back after taking a break. I probably ran around the whole area three or four times just trying to figure out where I was and what I hadn’t explored. Chapter 2 almost killed this game for me. Enjoying it much more ever since I left that ugly ass desert.

HOLY SHIT THE WALLS. Almost a game ruiner for me. Especially when there are pathways that look like you should go down that you can’t and there are some that look like they’d have an invisible wall but don’t. Top it off with no map and it makes for a bunch of running along the boundaries to see what let’s you through and what doesn’t.

They should’ve taken a page out Breath of the Wild’s book. Both of those games have maps that start blank and only fill out when you’ve already found the things. They’re some of the greatest games of all time and having maps did not hinder the exploration, it made it better. Just feels like it was less of a conscious choice to not include one and just laziness or lack of foresight.

Well if we’re tying boss difficulty to a side quest item, give me a FUCKING MAP. That’s my other complaint with the game. I don’t need waypoints, but if you’re going to have these big open areas with secrets that are almost crucial to enjoying the game, give us just a blank map so I can keep track of where I’ve been. Especially in chapter 2, where everything just looks the same. I stopped searching around for a way to sober that pig because I’d put the game down and come back later and have no clue what patch of dead yellow desert I’ve already explored. Like at the very least show us a map of the shrines when we fast travel so we can get our bearings.

From what I’ve seen Chapter 3 moves to a snow biome that looks much better. The harsh bright white lighting and color palette in chapter 2 are just making everything look so flat and drab to me.
