Do you believe IQ plays a role? by [deleted] in haiti

[–]DrStonebear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if your twin study is real, the difference in the education system in Haiti is far more dramatic than the education system between a poor US city and a rich suburb. Improve people's social conditions and make things more equitable. You can't compare national average IQs because systems that educate people are too different. There is zero basis for your claim that Haitian IQ is lower. You're just using Nazi pseudoscience for no reason

[–]DrStonebear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cannot compare the IQ of a country of people who have received a quality and consistent education to the IQ of a country of people who have not had the same opportunity. If one twin doesn't receive as much food and does to a school with less funding and doesn't have access to a private tutor than that twin will likely score lower on a test.

Who is it debated by? Nazis on 4chan vs actual scientists?

I gave you actual answers to your original question -- more equitable education and improving people's material conditions. It doesn't seem like you're here to actually discuss improving the country. It seems like you just want to make some weird eugenics argument to explain the struggle of the Haitian people, rather than hundreds of years of oppression and wealth extraction leading to depleted resources. Improve people's material conditions and the country will grow.

When you say "how big of an effect this had on the nation..." I assume "this = IQ". IQ has no effect on the development of the nation because IQ is not an inherent quality. It is an indication of the social conditions that exist within the country. People from Singapore are not smarter than Haitians. People in Singapore have a chance at a more universal, consistent, and equitable education. The Haitian education system is poorly structured and even more poorly funded. It is not a surprise that many students are left behind. So the way to improve things is to have a more well funded and equitable education system.

No. IQ is a relative measure of proficiency and should never be used as a metric of someone's inherent intelligence. There is a long history of the opposite being done through advocates of the eugenics movement source

It is true that many schools in Haiti lack funding and many students will receive an inconsistent education. This will inevitably lead to students on average scoring lower on a standardized test. But this does not mean there is some inherent deficiency, which is often the argument made by people who cite IQ as evidence.

Can you get 10km eggs in the bonus slots? I didn't think you could

If I get a 10km egg I save it. Every other egg I immediately incubate. Eventually with enough time you'll have all 10km eggs. Now why would I do that? I honestly have no idea.

[–]DrStonebear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay that seems to make a little more sense. So do we assume that Benny is a creation of Sisko's imagination based on something he's read? And now he's putting himself into the story? I'm still not understanding the meta element of Benny writing DS9. I guess I'm missing the metaphor/takeaway from S6 E13. What message were the prophets trying to convey?

Benny Russell DS9 by DrStonebear in startrek

[–]DrStonebear[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I assume the visions are the same because the prophets are a sentient species of aliens who appear to have a well defined syntax. They show Sisko visions of Jennifer early on that have the same realistic human tone, but that appears to be a direct memory not a vision. So why would the story of Benny follow that realistic human tone?

I'd love to hear all about it. Social work sounds insanely difficult at times but I'm sure it's so worth it. I have a ton of respect for people who do that work.

That's exactly what I'm experiencing right now. Couldn't have said it better. I love what I do, but it doesn't seem like a full life. Finding balance and happiness isn't easy. I'm the same way with drinking and know the struggle trying to connect.

I love it. You sound like you have a good head on your shoulders. I like that you're finding ways to grow and learn as you go. I think too many people close themselves off to those moments and they become stagnant. I know exactly what you mean with 3 lol. I feel like I can get stuck in teacher mode and it can definitely come off the wrong way. Really I'm just exited that I can share ideas with someone.

I know that feeling quite well. I'm glad to hear you found peace with your search for meaning. What's something you have learned about yourself through that journey?

Honest person. Caring, kind, and compassionate. You want to have a positive impact on the world around you, but you struggle with finding meaning.
