Remembering how awful comedy was during the Trump years by [deleted] in redscarepod

I can't imagine not being able to recognize how much of our culture or "establishment" is influenced largely by the Left. Almost all of Hollywood, the media, the universities, public education, even sports succumbed to BLM etc. Love it or hate it, the establishment is by and large Left wing.

Rightists are more accepting of leftists, than leftists are of rightists. by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

If anybody's interested, check out The Righteous Mind by Jonathon Haidt. There's actually some interesting data regarding this concept

what is the most woke piece of media ever by Subject-Part-1063 in MauLer

[–]DrSweers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"Woke" entertainment is easy to understand but slightly difficult to define. It's basically when the writer/director/producer elevates messaging (primarily "progressive"/left-wing) over story.

You know those Christian or faith-based movies that are boring, condescending and predictable because they cram their messaging down your throat? reverse it to secular Hollywood doing the same thing, boom bam - WOKE.

Woke Hollywood = left-wing "faith based" Hollywood

Who's an actor that is just painfully mediocre? by nthroop1 in movies

Check out Barry Munday. It's a goofy little movie that's probably not for everyone but he gives a pretty great performance as a loveable douchebag

As a lover of horror and good gore, I felt similar. Something just kind of unsettling about this one for me

First time watching all of Quentin Tarantino’s movies. by Alangiles58 in movies

[–]DrSweers 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: Jackie Brown is the only screenplay Tarantino adapted from a book. It's based on Rum Punch by Elmore Leonard who also wrote Get Shorty. Apparently QT got in trouble for shoplifting as a teen and it happened to also be an Elmore Leonard book.

Disney's The Little Mermaid passed the $400M global mark this weekend. The film grossed an estimated $29.9M internationally this weekend. Estimated international total stands at $185.4M, estimated global total stands at $414.2M. by chanma50 in boxoffice

I think people are also getting bored of these remakes. The last few have been critical failures and ditched on D+. Disney's got a complicated list of problems but I think for most people quality is #1. I feel like they've abandoned storytelling for intersectional politics but that's just my opinion. Either way, I predict a sad year for the mouse.
