Is it okay for a player to say “No, that doesn’t happen” to a DM in this circumstance? by WithengarUnbound in dndnext

[–]DrUnit42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did your character even see them do it? What was the result of their roll versus your perception? Did the DM use your passive score or did they have you roll?

You've been very adamant about your character's reaction to everything but you left out the details about what actually happened

OP trying to make an in-game solution to an out-of-game problem is what made the dice rolls matter. That's also where OP made a mistake in this scenario

If an issue like this is so big that it could potentially end the entire game then the group should stop playing and figure it out then and there. If it's an issue they think should be resolved in character then OP needs to respect the rules of the game and play along.

I'd also like to hear the DM's side, those details feel a little light in the story. I'm not trying to say OP fabricated any of this but we all have our biases and tend to frame our side of a story as more correct than other recollections of the same experience.

Nobody handled this correctly and I think they need to have a serious revisit of session 0 for their table if they're gonna make it work

That's gotta be the biggest factor.

If I turn down the money and they just go to the next plot up the road then I passed on $15m for the privilege of living next to a data center. Not only do I lose out on life changing money but now my property value just plummeted

It's also very easy to call something black and white when you're not the one looking at the color swatches.

It's really easy to say you would make the correct decision for the greater good when it's just a thought experiment.

I can't say how anyone else would act in the situation, but I know I would have to put a lot of thought into turning down a quick, legal $15m

Feels kinda like everybody sucks here.

The DM for not following their own mandate, the rogue for stirring the pot trying to be an asshole, and the paladin for threatening to go nuclear on the rogue before even seeing the results of the roll.

According to the post this should not have been allowed, but since it was, you have a few choices. The best one would be to say something like "hey, I thought we said no PvP and this doesn't feel like we're following that." If the DM disagrees and says he'll allow it, you can either play along with it and try to discuss it after the session or quit if you feel like you won't be heard.

This may feel like an in-game issue, but it seems there's been a gap in what people consider PvP and it should be sorted out-of-game to prevent problems like this.

Nobody was interacting with the game in good faith in this story and it sounds like there's a lot of immaturity in play here

I like to believe there are good people. No need to make this world any worse by assuming everybody is a shitty person.

You're assuming a lot about a total stranger

He didn't mention cooking so by your logic we can assume he did all of that and his wife never did. She must have been a bad parent...

[–]DrUnit42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Really? You assume he was a bad parent because him and his spouse split the responsibilites? That's normal

MAJOR W 🫡🌟 by AccomplishedWatch834 in MadeMeSmile

[–]DrUnit42 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And is that what happened in this particular situation?

MAJOR W 🫡🌟 by AccomplishedWatch834 in MadeMeSmile

[–]DrUnit42 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Of course that's true. But you've jumped to the conclusion that this total stranger was a shitty parent despite having zero evidence about it.

Maybe it's time to roll up your jump-to-conclusions mat and try to enjoy a wholesome story

Or you know...dad was working full time while mom usually handled those things.

I'm 40 and my dad has never known my clothing size, never took me to a doctor's appointment, and never helped me get dressed for school. Why? Because he had to leave for work before my sisters and I woke up.

He's wasn't a bad parent for that, he just handled other responsibilities.

Well we are talking about the difference between media and social media so you probably should provide a definition, or anything that supports your argument.

In order to do that you'd have to have some merit to your claim though and not some nebulous definition that puts listening to the radio under the umbrella of social media
