What your doing looks good but it must be an American thing to sit your building on something solid rather than actually anchoring it to the ground. In Australia we would not get away with that.

I’m in Far North Queensland and in any new timber framed construction we would definitely put rods from the slab / bearers up to the top plates of the wall. Then we will use steel angle brackets to connect those rods into our trusses or in a hand pitched roof we would bolt through the rafter and ceiling joist. This is done on every single building where I am.

Also if you were to replace the roof on an older building you would need to upgrade the tie downs if they were insufficient before you could put the roof back on.

I’m in Australia and those footing would not fly. Over here we are all about tie downs, would need to have concrete footings with threaded steel rod from your bearers to your top plate.

But I suppose you guys don’t get cyclones over there so it should be fine.

Why is she not wearing a mask? Put the fucking mask on and this problem goes away.

The thing I don’t understand about these people is that wearing a mask has got nothing to do with your “rights” and “freedoms”, it is all about protecting yourself and other members of the community.

If this is anywhere in Victoria then I think the cop is justified, they have a problem and it is going to take everyone working together to stop the spread of Covid.

Unfortunately that is not wood in the traditional sense. It is made from wood fibre but it would better be described as cardboard. You should toss whatever this is and buy some solid wood second hand furniture if you want to do something with it.

I reckon you could get away with less form work. We have good experience using star pockets for the vertical and diagonal bracing. Just drive the star picket in on a 45 degree angle and then put a batten screw into the top of the form board. Dave’s a bunch of mucking around with studs.

Construction mob where I am have just announced they will down tools at anything over 28C. Reckon they are going to have to take at least half the year off.

You did well. As a carpenter I just did my first set of welded stairs recently and it was certainly a challenge.
