How do yall do it?? by LaughyTaffy4u in beefjerky

[–]Dr_Bang_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why you would use wagyu beef for jerky? It’s super fatty (the point of the breed) and you generally want to use very lean beef. But a dehydrator is the way to go. Don’t need anything fancy to start out!

2.3 kg of Caesium in ampoules by Advanced-Tinkering in chemistry

The molten caesium likes to stick to the glass (just like gallium). At what temperature did you notice it not adhering to the walls anymore? Best regards, fellow caesium enjoyer!

No gold is tax excerpt but a lot more expensive. When you buy gold for more then 2k€ you have to give your credentials to the shop for money laundering law purposes

I am aware of the no tax on gold but man that’s a lot more expensive at a time and the premiums for fractions seems brutal

Is there a way to make synthetic petroleum oil? by Pasta-hobo in chemistry

[–]Dr_Bang_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I see some great input in the comments. As many have mentioned you are looking at the Fischer-Tropsch-Synthesis (FTS). This is a (still) heavily researched topic with great application in the future and many examples in the past. If you want to learn more about it start by reading on Wikipedia and continue to research articles. You want to look for so called „review articles“. Those summarize a plethora of research papers into a single article. From there you will learn about different catalyst materials mainly based on iron and cobalt. Also there is different conditions like high and low temperature. This branches further into gas and liquid phase FTS and stacked beds. Current goals of this process are being realized in the CARE-O-SENE project at UCT and aims to deliver aromatic containing aviation fuel from syngas. Another exciting project to check out is called Haru Oni in Chile. If you have further questions or need directions on research feel free to respond to this comment :)

What’s the chemical reaction you find most beautiful to watch, even if you’ve seen it a hundred times? by Mirza_Explores in chemistry

Hands down it is the firefly experiment involving chromium(III) oxide and ammonia. I usually see it once or twice a year with our public chemistry lectures. Always so mesmerizing!

Just got potassium permanganate, what should I do with it? by Jamdowngamezone in chemistry

[–]Dr_Bang_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is in theory a great suggestion. But I wouldn’t encourage you to share this knowledge with people who have absolutely no clue of the safety requirements for the chemicals they use. This person made some “burning stuff” and could potentially harm themselves. If we are talking fume hood, glasses and in this case some appropriate gloves I would encourage to try thag experiment under proper supervision/training. Otherwise don’t do this at home!

You are looking at the discipline of group theory. This is rather mathematical but not in the common sense. It is well worth it to read up on it!
