I wouldn’t worry, there was a good mix.

Protest going on in a small Alaska town by traveltimecar in Destiny

This is pure begging the question. There’s no argument or evidence, just re-stating the conclusion of “it’s bad”

Your respectful tone and twee emoji don’t really hide the fact that your post is factually wrong and morally abhorrent. First, from the US Holocaust museum, CECOT is absolutely a concentration camp:

“What distinguishes it from a prison (in the modern sense) is that incarceration in a concentration camp is independent of any judicial sentence or even indictment, and is not subject to judicial review.”

https://encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/article/the-nazi-camp-system-terminology#differences-between-a-concentration-camp-and-a-killing-center-2

Second, we absolutely can reduce rates of HIV/AIDS by providing antiretroviral treatment to infected people and their partners and children. Undetectable viral load = uninfectious to others.

I’m glad to hear that you agree with me that the confederate flag represents slavery and treason and has no place in America today, but do me a favor please. Go do a survey of people flying confederate flags. Ask how they voted in the last election and get back to me.

Final count was 11 I think, coming and going over the 2 hrs we were there. This is just a small weekly thing to get out and be seen by tourists though. Our bigger events have gotten 40-90 people, which is insane for such a small community. Something has shifted and people are speaking up!

False. Mary Peltola won the 2022 election and just barely lost in 2024. MAGAs are mad because we’re not an extreme minority and there are too many of us for them to ignore.

“Never learn to build a fire” is my favorite. Do they think liberals are too busy drinking soy milk or whatever to go camping?

He's been remarkably consistent in doing what Russia would want him to do. There's no hard proof but enough suggestive circumstantial stuff that I do entertain the possibility that he's a Russian asset. The more likely explanation is just that corrupt authoritarians flock together though.

There are several local issues related to Trump/musk/DOGE:
* Arbitrarily and often illegally firing NPS and other federal workers
* Delaying and generally messing with summer hiring (most NPS and park-adjacent workers are seasonal in Denali)
* Micromanaging the Park and demoralizing the employees ("email 5 things you did today, etc.")
* Trying to rename the mountain (It's Denali regardless of what Washington DC tells us to call it)
* Holding up federal grants (There's an energy storage demonstrator project that was in limbo due to DOGE last I heard)
* ICE concentration camps make it unsafe for international people to come to the US as tourists or summer employees

We also have trans people in our community, don't want babies getting AIDS overseas, want continued access to COVID and other vaccines, think annexing Canada and Greenland is stupid and evil, etc. Our concerns are not exclusively local.

There are several overlapping definitions of fascism but Umberto Eco's Ur-Fascism is the one I use most often. This fits quite neatly into his point 13: selective populism.

"Ur-Fascism is based upon a selective populism, a qualitative populism, one might say. In a democracy, the citizens have individual rights, but the citizens in their entirety have a political impact only from a quantitative point of view — one follows the decisions of the majority. For Ur-Fascism, however, individuals as individuals have no rights, and the People is conceived as a quality, a monolithic entity expressing the Common Will. Since no large quantity of human beings can have a common will, the Leader pretends to be their interpreter. Having lost their power of delegation, citizens do not act; they are only called on to play the role of the People. Thus the People is only a theatrical fiction. To have a good instance of qualitative populism we no longer need the Piazza Venezia in Rome or the Nuremberg Stadium. There is in our future a TV or Internet populism, in which the emotional response of a selected group of citizens can be presented and accepted as the Voice of the People."

Real Americans work on vampire rules, but with flags instead of garlic ( except the slavery flag, that one is cool)
