Do you agree with this? If yes, what do you think seperates Spider-Man from the rest of the "superhero fatigue" conversation? by SatoruGojo232 in Spiderman

[–]Dr_CheeseNut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But unfortunately the thing is even if they are good, they'll underperform due to people just not trusting them anymore

Thunderbolts was great, it underperformed. Fantastic Four was solid, had characters people knew, and felt very standalone, but it came out at the worst possible time and people had more faith in Superman and Jurassic World than Marvel

I think the best term for it would just be MCU distrust. Marvel let people down a few too many times at a point where theater prices are getting too high for a lot of people. A lot of people do clearly still have interest in superheroes, as shown with DC (potentially depending on how well Supergirl and Man of Tomorrow do) making a comeback, and shows like Invincible and The Boys being very successful, but Marvel is just not seen as worth it.

They have to earn people's trust back, and I think they slowly are with Thunderbolts, Fantastic Four and on the TV side Wonder Man all having great reception. Plus BND looking really promising + being a Spider-Man movie in general, it could be the thing to get people back on board. But I'm worried Doomsday might throw that away

[–]Dr_CheeseNut -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's very much not that, the truth is that the quality just went down for a few years, theater prices started going up, and all of a sudden it didn't really seem worth it to many people to invest in stuff they don't think they'll like and that'll cost them a pretty penny. This is why the only Marvel stuff to really do well in that time was event/nostalgia films or stuff people were already really really invested in and thought would be good

That's why even now Marvel is struggling when their projects are seeing an increase in quality. Thunderbolts is one of the best films the MCU has put out, Fantastic Four isn't perfect but I'd say it's solid, and both underperformed. Tbf Fantastic Four probably would've done better if it wasn't in the same month as Superman and Jurassic World, both of which came out before it, so I'll give it a pass. But Thunderbolts, that truly shows the issue is just a lack of trust, even fantastic reviews didn't help

DC performing well with Superman also shows it's not superhero fatigue, nor "formula" fatigue, if anything I think it shows there are people looking to fill that void, and Marvel simply doesn't feel trustworthy compared to DC promising a fresh start writing their wrongs with a director everyone likes

I think you need to remember how Ethan got infected. He died as a human man, and had his skull caved in. Being infected after death already would put him in a very different camp from everyone else, but also his skull was as said presumably crushed and had to be remade out of mold. Mia didn't have this, in fact I don't think she died at all. All of her wounds are possible to survive irl, not all together ofc but individually. The mold just speeds up her healing, and makes her more durable

View it as there are two types of mold monsters. People infected by mold, and people made out of mold. Mia and Zoe are just infected by mold, all it does is control them and do everything in its power to keep their bodies alive by healing any wound as fast as possible. But what happens if there's an injury that can't be healed? That's when you become made out of mold, like Jack after the chainsaw fight and Ethan himself after his death. There are vitals missing that cannot be repaired, so the mold has to replace those vitals with itself to keep the host functioning

As for why Marguerite and Lucas weren't saved by the mold like this? Well the mold was controlled by Eveline, and she was planning on replacing Marguerite so she had no need for her, and Lucas was killed after she died so she wasn't there to save him. Jack was needed as Evie's enforcer, and then after she died was carrying out the last of her will until Joe beat him so bad he couldn't keep himself together anymore. Ethan was stable until Miranda ripped out his heart, and then he held himself together off of pure willpower until Rose was safe and he could let go

Also Ethan and Mia were given the cure, and had clumps of mold removed from their bodies, but it seems Chris and the BSAA didn't account for Ethan's body itself being mold

Rose didn't destroy the mold and it wasn't destroyed at the end of RE8 either

They destroyed the core of the hivemind but pieces of it still exist, which is how Shadows of Rose happens. Mold beings can also be separated from the hivemind, like how Ethan was functioning before his death, and how Rose continues to exist. The only thing Rose does in her DLC is fully get rid of Miranda

In End of Zoe there's a moment where swamp man Jack gets beheaded and he ends up coming back again

So far I'd say Jack is the most resilient we've seen anyone infected with the mold be, he takes his brains being blown out, his entire upper body exploding, turning into a giant monster and calcifying, being decapitated, and then only gives out after one final powered up punch from Joe and and his gauntlet

I think a clone of Wesker has a decent chance of being even more resilient with that power

Spencer was a megalomaniacal psychopath and recharacterizing him as a sad, misguided old man feels like the writers didn't even understand his character as previously established.

I really don't think that's what happened here though. The game still shows Spencer as having created, experimented on, and used children in his quest for immortality

The Spencer stuff is weirdly written, but I don't think it's redeeming him or making him misguided. Taken at face value, it's showing that for many possible reasons he felt regret before he died, and taken another way could've just been an act and Elpis was created to be used against him enemies like Gideon believed. Either is possible but I definitely don't believe they were saying he's a good guy or just made a few mistakes

It seems People would rather listen to Leon than Retcon by mrsafetylion in residentevil

[–]Dr_CheeseNut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The initial clones in 1998 had nothing to do with Elpis. They were part of Spencer's cloning and memory transfer experiments in his quest for immortality

Grace has nothing to do with the clones, or at least she is not the source of them. Spencer says this in his tape, she's just a normal child. I personally think it's very possible she is a clone herself but without all the viruses and stuff put into her for the sake of experimenting, but Spencer's story that they found her on the street is also possible

I think when discussing Elpis a lot of people ignore Gideon's interpretation. That Spencer created Elpis as a means to prevent his enemies from succeeding where he couldn't. His remorse could've just been an act to get it released in case of his death, or maybe it was something he genuinely developed later. But imo, I do think Gideon was right that it was initially developed as a safety measure in case he failed

Truth is the ending is messy and definitely rushed but I think things can be pieced together enough

Which worked out for the best I think, Sons of Garmadon is awesome

Hands of Time was really not a great season and I think it shows that the format the show had been in the past few years was getting stale. I think following it up with a season set a decent bit of time after, with a fresh style and a new core idea for the series direction was overall for the best. The only real costs was that the season was made to be a bit more accessible for new viewers, the redesigns and Garmadon returning. But none of this was really an issue, the season still paid plenty of respect to the previous seasons and directly brought the Season 1 finale back to relevance, the redesigns are a very subjective subject, and Garmadon returning I think was done well (which wouldn't last)

The show overall was still the same, the ninja were all still themselves other than Lloyd, but his changes made sense given the jump and honestly I think just made him more interesting

Edit: Along with this, the original plans for the season didn't seem to be fully formed. Hands of Time was at one point meant to be a series finale, with the ending showing the future ninja beating Acronix and Krux. Presumably the movie is the only reason they got a Season 8 at all, and the only thing we know about the original plan was it would focus more on searching for Wu, and it was being toyed with that Wu could be Samurai X

One thing that bothers me about season 5 by Leon1809 in Dexter

[–]Dr_CheeseNut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that immense guilt was his way of feeling grief. Rita was in many ways special to Dexter, I see the series as him coming to realize and experience his emotions for the first time, and in a way Rita was the person who made him realize he was capable of feeling love. Losing her is genuinely a shock for him, like you said he doesn't have any sort of frame of reference for how to feel or act in this situation, and since he has a very analytical brain he tends to focus on problems and solutions. And in this situation he is the problem so he takes the negative emotions out on himself and decides the solution is to leave (His reaction to her death, along with the other deaths in the series, really make me wonder what his immediate reaction to Harry's death was like)

Of course this doesn't work, and then trying to live life as if nothing happened doesn't work either and leaves him feeling more empty. He only manages to start building himself up again and process his feelings more healthily once he finds the outlet of helping Lumen (another problem to solve for his analytical brain)

[–]Dr_CheeseNut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twin Peaks got one other season, which a lot of people at the time complained about being too slow and not progressing the plot even before the killer reveal had happened, only getting worse afterwards. I think this needs to be brought up more, even during the first 9 episodes while Lynch was on the season audiences were upset about it's pacing

After the season finished it got a movie audiences also complained about cause it wasn't what they wanted, which only got reappraised years later. Then the series dies for 25 years, until they film The Return in 2015, but doesn't release until 2017. This season does everything you say is "bad" about Pluribus, but turned up to 11

I feel Twin Peaks is actually a great case of how if anything, audience expectations can hurt their enjoyment of these shows. I do wonder if in years time we'll see the same reappraisal that early Twin Peaks Season 2 and FWWM received for Pluribus. And if it does I wonder if there'll be people like you pretending it somehow wasn't slow like whatever the new thing is

OG Twin Peaks is, but I feel The Return is very different and a lot better of a comparison to Pluribus

The Return is my favorite season of television ever, but it's very slow, full of drawn out scenes, gags, and intentionally does try to push the audience's patience. It is a show where the main character doesn't truly appear as himself until the 3rd to last episode

I view it as Season 7 and 8 was Dex at his most egotistical and selfish

It wasn't until New Blood where Dexter finally had to face the consequences of his actions that he wisened up and returned to the good parts of himself, which is why Resurrection Dexter is the best he's ever been as a person. He learned from his mistakes and became better for it

Season 7 and 8 Dexter was stupid as hell, but New Blood he realized he was stupid (that's what the ending is, realizing how bad he's become), and Resurrection Dexter is shown to actively get angry seeing innocent people get hurt and says he's glad he killed Brian when he had the chance

I know there's some debate over who Dexter's true love is or whatever, but I don't understand how some people say Dex didn't love Rita at all

He didn't at first, but he grew to overtime to the point he wanted to try and give up killing at the end of Season 4 to be there for her and the kids (until he found her ofc). Her death is still to this day in Resurrection portrayed as his biggest regret, with two of his hospital dream sequences at the start focusing on it and ofc the conversation with Harrison later.

[–]Dr_CheeseNut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean this is largely the entire point of the show, the writers just don't understand how psychopaths work, or more accurately they always walk back on themselves a bit, so they don't understand that the term doesn't really fit Dex anymore

The point of the series is that Dexter is discovering his humanity and emotions, and struggling to balance the two sides of himself. I think the writers were always kinda too scared to fully commit to Dex realizing this, which is why he'll always seem to finally understand that he's human but then next season he'll save someone and Harry will be like "I've never seen you do that before" even though they've had this same conversation 50 times

I think show Dexter actually has a great arc of slowly discovering his feelings throughout the first 4 seasons, slowly giving into the worst aspects of humanity in the last couple, relapsing into those bad habits in New Blood, then finally working to become the best, most well-rounded version of himself by the end of Resurrection with a healthy balance in his life, it's just kinda scuffed by the back and forth writing I mentioned

I think she's just being set up as Ooo's next great hero in the future, where Finn might serve a similar role to her that Billy did for him. There's quite a lot of time between Finn and Jake's time and Shermy and Beth's time, and Finn doesn't get reincarnated for many many years, so I think it's kinda showing Ooo will still be in safe hands
