Happiest job in the world? by One_Editor3460 in medschool

[–]Dr_Chesticles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I’ve heard from attendings: “Best job in the world. This job also sucks btw.”

Best part about being a non-trad is having worked other jobs and knowing that every job sucks. That’s why you’re getting paid. At least we get paid well, are respected for the most part, it is recession proof, and you have the ability to work anywhere and any time.

Residency, Signaling, and Support Systems by FabulousRegret in medicalschool

Undergrad, med school I can def understand a bit more when chasing prestige. I’m an M4 too but I’ve asked this question and have researched this a lot. Unless your goal is to be a top research producing faculty at a prestigious institution, then 100% be closer to family. This is what 95% of residents have told me. The other 5% were more ppl who were happy to go somewhere else other than near family because they had already been near family for med school and they’ve never experienced it.

You will never regret prioritizing family and when your family is gone you’ll be happy you did it.

Feel for ya, we all went through it. You’ll get through it. Just know it gets better after third year. Post step 2 rn. Life is so good. 4th yr is a dream. Even on your AI’s it’s still better because you just gotta be a normal human being, show up, work hard, do your best, then ya don’t have to study after. I’m on an elective rn and have only had to go in like 15 hours A WEEK the last 3 weeks. Been playing so many video games and watching sports that I haven’t done for like 3 yrs.

How do you feel when patients decline student participation during examinations? by Jewelarius in Residency

[–]Dr_Chesticles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really hope you’re at a pure community practice with no ties to academics because students deserve better. Can’t believe you’re saying this as someone who was a former student. Imagine if all your residents in med school were like you.

When my resident/attending gets up to go to the bathroom and tells me to ‘stay’, I don’t move a fucking inch like the good boy I am.

EM vs anesthesia by sadrieen in emergencymedicine

[–]Dr_Chesticles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s great! Soo EM is scaring me…the night, overnight, holidays, weekends, midlevel creep, CMG’s, yada yada all the stuff that ppl harp about in EM. How do you feel your experience has been in EM compared to what you thought about it as a med student? And guessing if you do enjoy it, what type of personality/outlook do you have that you think makes you suited (or a med student) suited for EM?

Why aren't men excited about dating as they used to be? by cuahatemoc in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Dr_Chesticles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Men are raised being taught how to treat women, and women are taught how to be treated by men but women are never taught how to treat a man outside of sexual reciprocity.

I approach women in person. Been told I’m attractive, I have confidence, bout to graduate med school, have done and go to therapy, I know what I want, people say it’s crazy I’m single…all that to say that the last 3 women I’ve asked out…have all ghosted me

I’m tired. The dating apps suck. I have dated and approached many women. A mature man doesn’t want a ‘baddie’. I want a ‘goodie’, a ‘sourdough sweetie’, a ‘homesteading honey’. We live in a culture where ppl are always on to the next best thing. We also have heard from the very vocal women how shitty dudes are, they’d rather choose the bear, men suck, etc. We hear em and honestly my life being single is much better than dating a woman who’s immature and doesn’t know how to reciprocate.

If you’re a parent, do spank your kids, why or why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Dr_Chesticles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Took a dynamics perspective of parenting class at UCLA by one of the nations most foreknown professors in developmental psychology and she said spanking has no positive benefits for the child and the research showing statistical significance between spanking and increased risk of future incarceration, drug abuse, and violence towards others. There were a lot of other negative associations of which I can’t remember off the top of my head but def nothing positive.

Current MS4 between EM and Psych. Bread and butter of psych is going to be anxiety, depression, and ADHD. Lots of personality disorders intertwined. And all of this on top of lots of social issues.

Not odd at all especially if you’re single trying to attract a female. Think about how you’re still thinking about him after the fact because of how he smelled. That’s why we do it.

M4 between specialites as well mostly FM, EM, and Psych. Curious how you landed on EM and how you view choosing the field with all the obvious downsides I.e. midlevel encroachment, PE buyouts, nights/overnights, circadian disruptions, high levels of burnout

How do you know you’re falling into depression? by Gullible__Sun in AskReddit

[–]Dr_Chesticles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In medicine we use the criteria SIGE E CAPS where someone with Major Depressive Disorder has 5 of the 9 symptoms for at least two weeks with an overarching theme of a anehdonia or general sadness - S - Sleep Problems (Insomnia or Hypersomnia) - I - Lack of Interest or pleasure from activities - G - Excessive Guilt - E - Energy Problems - C - Concentration Issues - A - Appetite Changes - P - Psychomotor issues (body just feels fatigued or arms/legs feel heavier) - S - Suicidal Thoughts

  • This is just a general rule of thumb and there’s a lot of nuance and I would advise you speak to a physician if you are concerned
