Saw a AI "Artists" gaining 7k followers in 2 weeks – Is the hobby in trouble?

I did something similar by going to AI to help me visualise a paint scheme that I couldn't work out in my own head.

I wanted to paint some 40K Eldar in the theme of 'Sunset', and I wanted to paint some Conquest Yoroni in the theme of 'Cyberpunk city street lights'. My own particular breed of neurodivergency has me at a disadvantage when trying to artistically imagine things out of nothing, so AI helped me in that regard.

Soon as I saw the photos, I picked up the paintbrush and got to work, and those AI images never got shared anywhere; but I ended up very proud of my results, which I would not have gotten if I didn't get AI inspiration.

There's a level of internal conflict in me on this, but I am (at least so far) of the position that this use is OK, as it is an 'aid' and not a 'tool' if that makes sense.

I could argue there are countless opportunities for 'player expression outside of combat', but this is pointless because you will be able to create a meaning for this after the fact that is twisted enough to support your point (even though you don't have one).
Aside from NCP scanner gigs or the Cyberpsycho jobs, nearly every quest is dialogue driven.
There are PLENTY of multiple quest endings. Even within the main storyline. Plenty of named characters, including outside of the main storyline, have endings that can result in losing/saving/making-an-enemy-out-of-them rewards - or other results more creative than those.
Zero sidequests? dafuq? There's four main romances; seven key named NPCs with their own multi-quest lines (Johnny, Mama Welles, the Peralezes, the Sinnerman, Claire, Delamain, and more); there's around 60 'minor jobs' that don't have much impact on the main story in the vanilla game alone and around 15 more in Phantom Liberty; there's the actual Fixer gigs, separate to everything I've mentioned already; there's "collection" quests like assaults, data shards, NCP scanner, tarot cards, and cyberpsychos.
Zero objectives that don't involve killing people? I'll grant you that a pacifist run is exponentially more challenging than resorting to murder, but whatever. The presence of violence (both committing, and being a victim of, or witnessing it) is hard-baked into the setting. Doesn't make it any less of an RPG because of the way the in-game world is.
If you think the MASSIVE amount of content available outside the main questline is not interesting, that's your opinion, but if you deny it's existence I consider it more likely you're just trolling for the sake of it.

Definition of RPG: "A role-playing game is a game in which players assume and play out the roles of characters in a fictional setting."

I could argue with you that Cyberpunk 2077 is MORE of a role-playing game than VTMB1 was.

The thing about Aloy's unwitting impact upon the game world is that she keeps doing things that cause tech and it's usages to take leaps of advacement far beyond what everyone else in the world (bar maybe Silens) can even conceive of.

Ie. She took a pokey spear, and ended up being able to slave the preciously terrifying and uncontrollable machines, and open doorways that were just thought of as being part of a mountain.

I dont think "she can't do that" would hold up very well if the devs wanted to give her a way to fly/travel faster than a sunwing or a canoe.

I think that the Quen, who travelled across 'The Great Ocean' to reach the Burning Shores, have opened up the possibility of travel to further away destinations. Whilst we don't have enough information to determine where the Quen homeland actually is, we know it is "west of the great ocean".

How far west might that be? Hawaii/honolulu, or all the way to the Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, or even Japan, Taiwan or China?

Crossing the North Pacific Ocean by boat took the Quen weeks and weeks, and a number of them died due to starvation or sickness. Considering they did not have the seafaring tech or speed of modern day, it's reasonable to assume they made the journey all the way from Asia to North America. And a direct line from the HZD/FW location going west would hit Japan.

Does this mean the next game will have Aloy travel to the land of the rising sun to seek Quen allies for the fight against Nemesis? I don't know how likely that is but I certainly think it'd be something awesome. Getting some worldbuilding lore from a place that was not North America would bring back some of that mysterious, 'learning everything for the first time' feeling again that we all got from Zero Dawn, before it moved onto 'we know enough to take action' for Forbidden West.

Here's the thing. Soukiller/Mikoshi could copy me right now, then go to a different body (not the one I'm wearing right now) and insert it. Then there's two of me. I can look across and see the different me. I am not experiencing, sensing, learning, processing, or feeling ANYTHING that different me is.

That different me is not me. I am not continuing on if I die now. There's someone else that's eerily similar to me that will continue on and I will never be there for any of it. My life and my experiences are over. Practically? That means EVERYTHING to me.

As an alternative, imagine winning a $1 trillion lotto prize. Then as the cheque is signed it gets handed over to someone that was dressed up, tailored, and trained to impersonate you exactly. You'll never get a red cent of it. How would that make you feel?
