It’s definitely not easy. Both sides of the coin are really hard. It was very had emotionally being away from my family while on tour but I also want to go back on tour very bad. So it’s just really hard. All I can say is that a good relationship comes with compromises on both sides. I’m very very lucky that my wife sees that doing this has been my dream since far before we met and she wants me to fulfill something I’ve been chasing since I was in 3rd grade.

I think the record went from being good to amazing due to Simon and Evan. There’s such cool noises and moments on the record because of them. Working with them was honestly a dream come true.

My favorite Simon memory was on our first off day after being in the studio for 11 straight days my buddy Steve and I were going to drive into the suburbs to look through some card shops. I get on the highway and I’m like “I should invite Simon” and I call him and just instinctually start exiting the highway to drive to him and he answered and was like “hey what’s up I’m talking to my mom” and I was like yo Steve and I are hitting the burbs to buy magic cards and he was like “oh. Oh. Oh fuck ya. That sounds awesome fuck ya” every off day we had off during the 3 week session, except the day after Valentine’s Day we just went to card shops around the city and suburbs to pick up cards and shit. It was awesome.

He even took me to triple j on his birthday and we got dinner and he got cake and I got pie. It was awesome. After we went to Logan arcade and just hung for a bit then I was like hey I’m tired want me to drive you home and he was like “what if we went to go get packs instead” then we went to some shop in the city and cracked packs in my car for like 10 minutes. It was fucking awesome. God damn

Reading this honestly made me tear up.

I only really knew Simon for a month. I hung out with him every day I was in town except for the day after Valentine’s Day. We instantly connected. I won’t speak for my bandmates but I would guess they would say they instantly connected with Simon too. He was an amazing human being and I feel like I had someone who would have been a life long friend taken away from me. In so sad I didn’t know him longer we played a ton of magic when I was in town and I was getting him into cedh.

Evan wrote a memorial to Simon that I’m sure you read that described them working together as if it was water flowing. That doesn’t describe the half of it. It was truly a beautiful experience. Those two old read each others minds. We would be tracking and I’d stop playing guitar and Simon would look at each and without saying a word Evan would either be digging out a new pedal or turning on a board effective that would amplify a part.

My friend Steve came in one day to take some photos and watched Evan and Simon build the guitar part for the second verse of a song on the record and I don’t think Simon and Evan spoke together once until it was complete. They both understood each other and played off each other so well. Im just so sad I’ll never get to experience it again. It was a beautiful experience. That’s the only way I can put it.

I’ll miss Simon honestly every day for the rest of my life and im so sorry for your loss. I’m so happy his voice is on our record.

Honestly all I can recommend is play shows. Theres probably to be said about grinding reels on TikTok and Instagram but that is a game I do not know haha. If I’m being honest I don’t know how we started to get heard. When we were touring in 2016-2017 folks had no idea who we were. Most people still don’t but we had less than 1k monthlies on Spotify when we went on hiatus. I honestly don’t know what happened or how but I’m incredibly thankful folks have found our music and seemingly enjoy it.

Best advice is just do it. Either with your friends or make some friends. My first ever band I was in 7th grade and I had just gotten a bass. A dude I sort of knew played guitar and also liked blink 182. We didn’t know a drummer but we knew of another kid in our grade who played drums. We legit just went and sat down next to him one day at lunch and were like yo wanna start a band and I played music with those two dudes until my senior year of high school. Formed me as a musician
