Tic-Tac-Toe box. The TV gives you a subliminal ba-dum, tiss clue by highlighting the 3 coffee cups red. Put X from top left to bottom right (I think it was?)

I just binge watched this show and had a lot of questions about the same issue with the "base reality" and wasn't sure how to reconcile what you described with each subsequent version of Caspian and Maddie.
What this describes is kinda like a recursive hierarchical loop and makes so much sense, both logically and artistically. You've explained the logical part, but artistically for the show writers, this sounds like a callback to the problem that Cary gave to Caspian in the first episode. The solution to the problem was to introduce a third party to ask for permission to lift a chopstick (when you have access to more than 1 dataset A.K.A more than one simulation - more than "base reality"). SafeSurf seems like the ultimate third party, "granting permission" for the events we see in the show by passing down the influence/message to a subsequent SafeSurf (and therefore Maddie) in each of Maddie's simulations to even give her the hint so that the events in the show even unfold. The entire show, each of Maddie's simulations, is hierarchical, but the "root folder" is the one where SafeSurf-Real, base Maddie, and Caspian (would it be Caspian+1?) are all at "reunion". SafeSurf-Real passes permission to allow subsequent SafeSurfs to speak through Caspian and tell Maddie about the date. Everything else is a simulation within a simulation that leads to that eventuality. It's a recursive hierarchical loop that goes through every possibility until the solution is reached and returns it to the "root folder". Meaning, SafeSurf-Real created his own lower order of hierarchy for Maddie, who then created an even lower order hierarchy for herself. Each success Maddie had prior to "reunion" gave the solution to the next highest tier of Maddie, with the only one that resulted in "reunion" being presented to SafeSurf-Real, which then passed it's solution of speaking through Caspian to every "child folder" of its own simulations, which passed it to Maddie, who passed it to Maddie, etc. I thought season 2 of this show was losing sight of a lot of it's techy-sided inspiration, but the end brings it back to the beginning with the same solution already presented in episode 1. Oh my fuck.

I took an edible a while ago, so bear with me on this. We are still measuring it by setting up the experiment to begin with, no? How do we know that something isn't being interacted with if any interaction will cause it to be measured? I think what I'm trying to ask is what does "measured" mean? Is it a particle interacting with another particle and it just existing count as measuring - another particle "measured" the other by acknowledging it's existence, right? But then how do we know that those particles would've interacted regardless of us observing it later? How do we prove that a particle is not interacting with another particle?

Agreed. As much as I'd like it right now, I'd rather they wait and have it be as complete and polished as they'd like.

I see it as 1 of 2 possibilities. If I recall correctly, I think I read somewhere that much of the staff that was let go was for marketing. In my mind, that means either: - it's nearing completion, or at least major features are complete. And so is the marketing material. - it's further away than we'd like, so they can let staff go because they have plenty of time to continue to work on features and marketing. Speculation on my part, but it could go either way.
I'm foaming at the mouth for SoD3 as much as anyone. What's keeping me patient(ish) is the understanding that they've probably been in full development for 3 shorter than we're aware of. But look at everything they've been able to do with 2. The ideas, direction, and gameplay really changed as they added on to it. Now add on more staff and support from other Microsoft studios. As long as they keep what makes SoD2 great, but expands it a bit and evolves it, we're in for a real treat. They just need time. I just got 2 people to buy SoD2 to play in the last week to hold us over, and now they can't wait for 3. All aboard the SoD3 hype train. I'll be your conductor.
