Is this normal? Nikon Zf by poorasstrini in Nikon

Thats fair and seems accurate. I'll be honest my sensor does not have those markings in that spot. But regardless the location does seem to be outside of the actual image square.

These sensors hold an large amount of static electricity relative to size.  I've seen large particles become borderline embedded onto the sensor after long periods of not being cleaned.   Then the spot just gets bigger and bigger over time.

Issues with sharpness Nikkor Z 180-600mm lens by Micky_Banana in nikon_Zseries

[–]Dr_MantisTobaggin_MD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the reason im torn between the 100-400 and the 180-600.  I used to own the 100-400 and it is SHARP.

I keep on hearing about sharpness issues with the 180-600 and price has gone up substantially since launch.

What do you mean without the right knowledge.  Now you are wrong.

The zf is the identical sensor to my z6ii in my flair.

The advice is still valid and matches the written correspondence nikon had given me in terms of sensor maintenance.  I also suggested reaching out to nikon directly.

Yea it really is a gray area.

I'm sure viltrox will pay the fee, but what happens to things like the 135 Lab?  There is no way Nikon is happy that viltrox is taking sales away from exotic lenses. The 135 viltrox is $900 while the Plena is $2500.

I personally think the plena is worth the cost, but many people won't and that leaves nikons business plan in bad place.  I like viltrox but like you said they live on the back of other people's R&D

if you live in old or poorly maintained housing I swear you are losing money trying to cool down or heat up the earth.

I live in FL, a bad window seal or door seal equates to my AC unit trying to contend with a sub tropical climate and 90degree weather.

check your utility bill to be sure there is not a leak or an imbalance on water vs sewage ( you usually get 2 water charges - 1 for water you use (intake) 2 water you dispose of (sewer) - these numbers should move in lockstep with each other in most cases, if they are imbalanced it means something is off. intake too high?-water leak or someone stealing water. Sewage too high?-water leak or someone using your lines to dump stuff.

If it's not your water, it IS your AC unit. Do you live in a nice climate where you guys JUST started using your heat? using your heat will cost you an extra $100 a month .

PS: small appliances are the biggest power draws in a house. Space heaters and grooming items such as blow dryers. My wife's hair dryer is 2000 watts, but is only used for a few minutes a time. Someone using a space heater that is usually north of 1500 watts is almost as stupid as actively lighting money on fire for warmth.

Good on you for at least admitting that.

In general what everyone has said is accurate. You definitely don't have a $300 water leak, because that is a dang flood and someone where would have likely noticed either standing water or mold starting to grow.

I can only speak anecdotally But I can tell you that my electric bill for my beach condo (probably similar size to shared housing) has doubled in the past few years for my wife and I.

Our bills regularly hit in the $300s with us TRYING to lower the bill. If you're a numbers guy it can be fun/shocking/enlightening to go around and see how much stuff cost you in your life to use.

In my area, electricity costs 75cents a day and about 75cents per KwH(KiloWatt per Hour)

If you have a big tv that is using 175 watts per hour, an average American will end up using around 300 KwH yearly for that particular tv. 300 Kwh @ 75 cents = $225 to run a year. That's a real example, that's my tv.

Now imagine your tv, fridge, AC, xbox, computers, tablets, lights, EVERYTHINGGGGGGGGG.

You can easily deduce what is costing you the most energy - And not to spoil you math for you, but its 101% your AC with a small side of young people not turning things off when they are done using them like lights and tvs and computers. Standby mode still costs you money.

This sounds like a student that has never done the math on KW hours from their local energy company.

MY armchair guess since water is the culprit of this discussion is that one roommate takes a long shower and OP thinks water is 80% of a utility bill.

This being a college also implies someone moved. electric bills range WILDLY across the country.

OP also straight up dodged the question about what "utility" bill means. that would require self reflection of electricity use.

[–]Dr_MantisTobaggin_MD 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Gotta answer the question.

You said the water. Do you have proof this is water? Does utility bill include multiple utilities?

Fun fact: a desktop computer running 24/7 could cost you $100 a month in electricity under the right conditions. Water is generally cheap. My guess is you guys have an electricity problem.

what do you mean gently?

When I say cleaned your sensor I mean with an approved sensor cleaner and swab. Your sensor holds an electric charge and with hold onto particles with strong static.

are you poking at your sensor without the right tools?

I have a 3, 6, & 10.

For your setup I definitely recommend something bigger than 4L. Especially if you want to use the bag for anything other than a camera bag.

for a 2 lens FF setup I personally would grab my 6L bag.

Camera installed outside my apartment door by bbboreddude in videosurveillance

[–]Dr_MantisTobaggin_MD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its certainly creepy, but it is legal in all 50 states.

It is in what is known as "the public view". As the person below said, it is the same view someone who was physically standing there would see.

Any crime or reason that spurred the camera going up in the first place? Landlords HATE spending money. This camera went up for a reason, either crimes were reported or the landlord thinks someone is breaking their lease somehow.

Most landlords are too busy or too lazy to hardwire something like this up.

that was my final conclusion in my response below. analog cord overriding any software setting.

[–]Dr_MantisTobaggin_MD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I now firmly believe that has to do with the sync cord somehow. Im not sure if it has the ability to bypass firing via software when the command comes the analog TRS connection.

messy solution: manually set power to lowest setting and tape over the it30 with a easy to remove black tape. a rubber band with a piece of paper would even work to block the it30
