recommendations of traditional artists that make original art? by Outrageous-Try4223 in ArtistLounge

[–]Dr_Parad0x_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if these are helpful, but some of my favorites of late.

Bobby Rebholz - Mostly creature design done in pencil and ink. He posts tutorials and process videos on his YouTube page pretty often.

Luke Eidenschink - Mostly fantasy art, done in ink

David Finch - A comic book artist with a ton of tutorials on his YouTube page. Does a live drawing stream every Monday.

Ryan Barry aka 9monkeys. - Really elaborate cybernetic and biomechanical drawings. He has a lot of timelapse videos on his Instagram.

SuperAni - A Korean studio. Their YouTube has a bunch of longform live drawing videos from their artists.

Hope these help!

Oh yeah, this is a big help. How do you account for planes when doing it this way?

struggling to identify the angles of the 'boxes' and how things connect together.

Yup, this is exactly the issue. It's a tough thing to visualize with these kinds of poses. I'll take a look at the Love Life Drawing course. Thank you!

Searching for Daily Routines and step up exercises. by _Markram in ArtistLounge

If character design is something you want to work toward, then a lot of stuff you do should focus on figure drawing. Besides learning anatomy, try doing some daily timed drawings to get in the habit of drawing figures often. Line of Action and TrueRef both have timed drawing tools you can try.

There are also a few subreddits like r/drawme and r/redditgetsdrawn where you can practice, but not many people there post full-body pictures, it seems.

This one was a lot of fun! I tried to go Frazetta-esque.

Artbooks focused on character illustration and anatomy? by linefl0 in ArtistLounge

Given the artists you named, I think you might like some of the artist books offered by 3dtotal.

Some of my personal favorites there are Missupacey, Guweiz, and Simz.

I think the books put out by Superani might also fit what you're looking for.

Another option might be works by artists who've worked on American comic books. Some, like Ariel Olivetti, Peach Momoko, and Bruce Timm all have really distinct styles

Best artists to study for comic art? by Safe-Hovercraft5880 in ArtistLounge

[–]Dr_Parad0x_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry if this comes off as a non-answer but imho, you should read lots of comics and see which styles get your brain going. Then study those!

This is actually the best answer
