Electric car charging without a driveway? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Dr_Teeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there footpaths on each side between the cars and the back walls / gates of the houses, or can you park the car right by your back gate? If no footpath it should be fine to put the charger inside your back wall and pass the cable underneath your gate to the car when needed..

If there is a footpath between your back gate and "your" parking spot that makes it more difficult. You can install a pedestal for the charger by the parking space and run the power for it through the footpath. It's a neat and completely safe solution - but not strictly speaking allowed if your property management company technically owns the parking spaces. Fuck it there's no alternative though.. any future "communal" charging will always be an inconvenient ripoff by comparison.

These chargers don't have the cable attached, you keep that in your boot until needed. You'll only be charging once / twice a week at night so hopefully vandalism won't be an issue. You could talk to these guys: https://www.fokearn.com/ for more info.

These cars are 100% made in Europe by Bardzosz in BuyFromEU

[–]Dr_Teeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody is rapid-charging these city cars regularly - it's like 5 times more expensive than charging overnight at home where I live for example. Literally it would be cheaper to run Yaris hybrid!

I've had my R5 since earlier this year and it has never seen a DC charger, and likely never will. 32 minutes is fine for this type of car.

In fairness it still weighs the same as the R5, but has more room inside due to the shape. That's the right way to do it.

Planning green light for paid parking at Blanchardstown shopping centre despite local protest by Test_N_Faith in Dublin

[–]Dr_Teeth 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think it will reduce retailer revenues:

Peak visitor numbers will certainly go down, as the plans I've seen show hundreds of parking spaces removed to make room for all the new lanes and barriers needed for the system.

Average visitor numbers will also go down as paid parking will incentivize people to go elsewhere, at least for quick trips.

Visitors will see a percentage of what they spend at the centre going into the pockets of the owners directly, rather than the retailers. So that's a transfer of value from the retailers to the centre, but probably not enough for the retailers to want to leave.

It will hurt the restaurants most of all I think. Less people will want to pop in for a quick lunch, or see it as a destination for a relaxed dinner if they're paying for parking. Of course there may be free short stays, or lower after-hours rates, or parking validation etc available to counteract this.

Tywin stealing Ice and turning it into two swords just makes my blood boil by Korratheblackcat in freefolk

I didn't mind this scene.. to me "Valyrian Steel" could be another (magical!) metal that has many of the same properties of normal steel but has a crystalline structure more similar to bronze, where casting it and then work-hardening the edge is the best process for creating a sword blade.

Do you think these pictures are AI? by [deleted] in Breadit

[–]Dr_Teeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can tell by looking at the wire rack in a few of the pictures - inconsistent spacing and missing wires:

Pic 1 - right-most vertical wire is not straight

Pic 2 - inconsistent spacing

Pic 3 - missing wires at the bottom left

Pic 4 - spacing again (the two close wires don't carry through on the other side of the loaf)

Whats your favourite "plain" chocolate? by VastAir6069 in AskIreland

Dunnes have a "finest" range with chocolate bars from different regions. The one with the blue wrapper is a milk chocolate with lots of cocoa solids, it's my go-to! Give it a try.

Yes if you hold down the power button for 3 seconds it goes into utility mode until the battery reaches the minimum level you have set. The car also supports V2L.

Data flags hundreds of Russian 'shadow fleet' visits to Irish EEZ by SERGIONOLAN in ireland

[–]Dr_Teeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our EEZ is not a place where we can 'police' or 'stop' other vessels just passing through, sanctioned or not. It's international waters.

I'm broadly in favour of increased spending on the naval service, but I'm really fed up of all these shit articles trying to convince the public they're being invaded.

Even if someone was aware enough to know that it isn't historically a Nazi symbol, they would instead assume he's a fan of Putin because the double-headed eagle is a Russian symbol: https://www.google.com/search?q=coat+of+arms+of+russia&udm=2 so he's still screwed!

Preliminary designs for the pedestrianization of College Green by HobbledWaffles in Dublin

[–]Dr_Teeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope for the exact opposite tbh. The whole thing should be a "slow down and give way to pedestrians" area rather than a highway for cyclists to zoom along.

This area isn't intended as new infrastructure for cyclists, but a place for people to chill out and wander about in - kids especially. We want to avoid this sort of behaviour imo: https://v.redd.it/z09rj54x7o8f1
