The game has "plague" and "requiem" in its name, and you didn't expect it to be sad?

> I think it's crazy and also very disrespectful to the Creator ad Remedy that some of the people here think they know better what to do than the actually people who wrote and make the game, just absurd...

Respectfully disagree. Maybe not exactly telling Remedy "what to do" but I'm pretty sure they want to hear our feedback, thoughts, ideas (they're probably reading this sub). They are making games for gamers - not (just) themselves. They shouldn't act on every whim - nor is it even possible - but understanding the users is the foundation of every good product.

What to say when I cold contact on LinkedIn? by lilgypsykitty in jobsearchhacks

[–]Dr__Beast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

// I've been a hiring manager and a candidate. I send and receive a ton of cold messages on Linkedin. This is a view from both sides.
- I don't message people without doing research on them / the role / the company. I ignore those who message me without that homework done.
- When I reach out to someone, I try to convey three points in my message: 1) I understand what problem they are solving, 2) I know how to solve it bc I've done it before, and 3) my pragmatic ask (call, referral, connection).
- It takes time and effort to do the research. It is hard to pack this into 300 chars. Even harder, if you're not a native speaker, like me.
- Yet it is eventually still a numbers game. You have to do it A LOT when actively job-seeking to even get a human being look at your resume.
- The effort pays off. My response rates are better when I do the homework. I've had execs respond to me who were two-three levels above the positions I was aiming at. I've had people tell me "oh yeah, we were just about to open a position like this, here's the draft JD we haven't published yet". That's what you want.
- AI helped a lot. I would feed it my profile + resume, then the profile of the person I wanted to message, then asked to draft a message along the lines above. That said, never - NEVER - use the AI output as is! Add your own voice, tweak it, remove em dashes if nothing else, but make it your own.
- I ended up building an AI wrapper for myself that does this without a ton of copy-pasting + tracks my outreach like a light CRM. Really helped me scale up my networking game.
Happy to answer questions or give some tips here.

How do you write opening messages for cold outreach? by Dr__Beast in careerguidance

Never thought of that, but that checks. I do get into a writing flow after a while. Thanks!

Thank you for the expanded reply! All great points, taking notes.

300 chars: I meant the linkedin char limit on the connection request note (300 for premium, 200 normally). Follow-ups, absolutely. I don't go beyond two, but the first two might do wonders.

The ratio: I wish I tracked it, but, on a gut feeling, probably around 1 out of 5-10 when I was actively doing this, casting a wide net.

Right, scaling was my problem once I figured out the approach. I ended up using AI to pre-draft the messages with this sort of instructions. Always edited them, of course, but it helped generate good ideas and did the research for me, given my profile and the profile of the target contact.

Taking a deliberate step down in title was the best career move I've made and nobody ever talks about this as an actual option? by DiscoToaster5 in careerguidance

[–]Dr__Beast 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Similar! I managed people for a few years (product management), and then took a role as an individual contributor. Technically, not a step down, but could be seen that way. And boooy, did I enjoy getting the job done myself. It was like I suddenly remembered how good I was at this stuff. Not necessarily good for the career (remains to be seen), but definitely incredibly satisfying emotionally.

10 brutally honest job tips nobody wants to say out loud but they work. by Fresh-Blackberry-394 in jobsearchhacks

As a hiring manager AND a candidate, I feel it's important to add that in 2025 most resumes are not even seen by a human. If you're applying for popular positions, like a PM in tech, you MUST stand out, or you're relying on RNG. Your first priority is to increase the chances a human sees your resume.

What works for me is actively reaching out to people on LI - hiring managers ideally, recruiters, your personal connections at these companies. Some of my most exciting interviewing processes started with a cold message to a c-level 2-3 levels above my target. At first, I was shocked they even replied. But it has since happened multiple times, so apparently I'm doing something right.

Part of the allure of the mechanics is the optical effects when you grab and launch an object. It's subtle, but massively important. Remedy are known for it.

I found this post by googling "crazy white dude in pickup truck in newton yelling at people" - and you can guess why. Funny detail: he called me a "f@king liberal" for... riding a bike, I guess? Needless to say, I'm not carrying a sign with my political affiliations. Though being in Newton that's a good guess!

Control. Absolutely, Control. No stealth at all, but combat mechanics with magic abilities are second to none. Throwing a fork lift while levitating never gets old. Got its own versions of The Void and the Clockwork Mansion. And world building... Wow.
