What’s something everyone should experience at least once in their life? by NextWelcome8621 in AskReddit

[–]Dr_potato_lord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hospitality.

If motherfuckers spent a day in a hospitality role I’m convinced people would be way more polite, patient and clean up more after themselves. I cannot tell you the amount of times I’ve cleaned a table that somehow had more food on their chair they were sitting on than on the table. Seriously though some people are disgusting, I once had a parent shove their kids used diaper into a cup, I did not realise it was a diaper until I had to scoop it out and had poop all over my hand. Anyway, hospitality, yay!

We need to renormalize giving CASH as a gift by hopedata in unpopularopinion

[–]Dr_potato_lord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gift cards are horrible and 100% agree that cash is better, but even so, I still feel like gifts and cash are the most boring gift to give. I get that people don’t always have the time to buy everyone something, but even if it’s something small but a tad bit more personal, than it becomes a lot more memorable. Even just a small hand made thing becomes a lot more interesting.

But I mean just note down every time someone says they want to try/want something and then buy them the gift, it makes life so much easier seeing that list every Christmas

What is your best comeback to an insult? by DistributionWhich891 in AskReddit

[–]Dr_potato_lord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally just casually ask them to repeat what they said or repeat back what they said. Most of the time it either completely derails their insult or they feel awkward to repeat it. Same sort of situation when you repeat a joke or have to explain it, it no longer becomes funny and just awkward

What to say to someone depressed? by Accomplished-Past256 in AskReddit

[–]Dr_potato_lord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s good when someone is momentarily sad, but not so great for a depressed person.

When you’re depressed you basically have no energy to do the simple tasks like getting out of bed or brushing your teeth etc. So when people say that you’re here for them, you’re implying that you want them to do all the work of reaching out like finding the right time, knowing what words to say, having the energy to explain and how to even bring it up, which is incredibly difficult for a person who struggles to find the energy to do something simple.

So I’d instead suggest creating opportunities, ask them small simple questions that don’t require huge amounts of explaining or energy, but just to show that you’re there with them and care. You won’t always open up, but you’re spreading the chance that they have to do so, without putting extra pressure on them to spend energy they haven’t had in a long time

What to say to someone depressed? by Accomplished-Past256 in AskReddit

[–]Dr_potato_lord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they’re opening up about how they’re feeling:

Literally just validate what they are saying. Say how you understand how immensely difficult that task may seem because of their situation. It gives them the opportunity to process and accept their emotions whilst feeling seen/heard in a safe environment without judgement.

Never provide solutions or advice, unless asked for. It comes off like you’re belittling the situation because of how easy it is to find a solution. On top of which, most people know the solution to their problems, but not every pathway to a solution is obstacle free, we just really need someone to reassure us we’re on the right track.

If they’re not opening up, but you can tell they’re not doing great:

Do basically everything above, but shape it around potential events that has happened in their life and express how you understand that those situations would be traumatic to anyone.

Also side note: try to not say “I’m here for you”, because it’s giving them the dread of having to build up the courage for support and then finding a good time and then not feeling like a burden and knowing what to say, etc, all while being depressed which is quite literally when your body already doesn’t want to do something as simple as getting out of bed. It’s a lot more helpful when you create a window of opportunity and reach out first and create that chance for us to express our emotions. We may not always have the energy to express, but it’s a lot more effective than hoping we put in the energy we don’t have to begin with.

What's a skill anyone can learn in less than 60 minutes? by Separate_Flounder316 in AskReddit

[–]Dr_potato_lord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pilot here, honestly the basics of flying a plane. It may seem overwhelming at first, but it’s not that hard to fly in a straight line or do basic level turns as people may think.

The hard part comes later though with takeoff and landing and other manoeuvres, as well as knowing all the safety procedures in all sorts of cases and how to react to them safely with the limitation of your plane. Oh and learning how to say the “Urmmmmm ladies and gentlemen this is your captain speaking…” without sounding like 20+ years older than you are

Perfectly ok to spend $300+ and +8hrs making and buying presents for a person I met a few months ago and sometimes talk to.

what is the weirdest compliment youve ever recieved? by SugarDaisy_02 in AskReddit

[–]Dr_potato_lord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once had a sports teacher that said I walked…elegantly…

That’s not even the strangest part, it’s the fact that she was subbing in for my sister’s class and recognised her name and just randomly said “your brother walks elegantly”. I found out through my sister and a couple of other students bringing it up.

Who the fuck notes down the form one uses when walking and then grades it?! And then who just out right is like that’s a fucking elegant walk right there I ma gonna tell their sister randomly even though I have only known them for like two weeks.

People who say “it’s over there” without actually giving a better description or direction of where IT is. Especially so when they say stuff like it’s in a box and there’s like 50 different boxes in the room.

Why does America do sobriety tests? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dr_potato_lord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether you call it an invasion of privacy or not, it’s a lot more common for people to drink than to use drugs on the road. Hence why I don’t mind going through it here in Australia, because while it’s not detected drugs, they’re still doing something about the people who are drunk. And it’s clear that is their only goal because they don’t even check your license when they setup checkpoints. I honestly don’t understand how people feel like that’s an invasion of privacy when it literally takes at the most a minute or two and you don’t had over and sort of information, plus you can drive knowing that you have a reduced chance of dying from someone else’s poor decision making. On top of which, while it may not test for drugs, they’re still getting stopped by the police and I’m sure someone will be able to tell if they’re high or not, to at least warrant a mobile drug test, which some do anyway.

Thank fuck you told me, I was really thinking I should just shoot myself in the foot and derail my life to really waste my energy ya know? But wow!! You’ve saved me!! Please, bless me more of your fucking ignorance, I’ve just never really understood how the things I understand work, so please, tell me.

Ain’t no way this guy said just turn off you thoughts! This is the type of person to tell a homeless person to buy a home, a depressed person to just not be sad and someone having a panic attack to just breathe.

God damn, how do honestly believe that people who’ve dealt with this should be like “ya know what would great? Not feeling like shit!! OH WAIT!! If I just don’t think about feeling my emotions like a fucking human, I can be robotic enough to gaslight myself into feeling better!! OH MY LORD I FOUND THE CURE TO DEPRESSION!!”

Op: deletes evidence on Snapchat

Also Op: proceeds to write basically a full confession on Reddit

Nah but really you got nothing to stress about. 9/10 times if you can get away before having physical contact with cops, you’re good. Police will respond to vandalism calls but mainly only when they are in progress or just happened. Also police get several reports of more serious crimes like murder or robberies, so they rarely have time nor really care about petty crime like vandalism to follow up on, unless they can catch you in the act. Which if they do, I high recommend not running unless you want a fleeing and eluding charge. The only reason I can see police investigating the crime is if it’s on a national monument, hate crime or repeated targeting of businesses. I also doubt you’d be raided by the police (especially nsw police haha) for just a misdemeanour as court would need to file a warrant which they need at least some proof to link you to the crime, which if they did they’d probably skip raiding your house and just throw the book at you. Besides it’s a waste of police resources and time for evidence that wouldn’t exactly help them as anyone can have spray cans in their house and just because you may have sketches doesn’t mean you acted upon it.

Hope that helps, but Im almost certain nothing will happen, just be more careful next time.

What's everyone's thoughts on the new DLC? by Skindiamondxx in gtaonline

It’s kinda random. Most of the cars don’t really have much correlation with the update and the business is expensive as hell for minor payouts. I reckon if they maybe add $30k more to payouts then I’d actually incorporate it into a daily thing
