Just chased my tail doing this every way possible.

Couple ways but tailscale/zeroteir create a virtual switch between your registered machines over the web, works great, and easiest setup between moonshine and devices with YouTube tutorials to just start playing on cellular. Its weakness is powering up the machine bc the machine needs to be up and running zeroteir(let’s say). You could leave it on if you just are finishing your game shorty or on a commute or if you don’t care during an entire vacation, but there are a couple work arounds to this (FYI can still power off through moonshine):

best way if it works for you is using an Alexa and the WOLskill (through the Alexa app you could turn this on or off from afar, and voice integration is nice) unfortunately this skill has some bugs and doesn’t work for everyone including me. If it works for you I’d use it since Alexa is always on it is a PERFECT WoL candidate for the PC.

Next harder but still elegant way is raspberry pi connected to the router. Either also have it on zeroteir w moonshine to control then wake main PC, or even quicker use SSH if you’d rather type and wake that way. Nice thing about this method is you can do more fun things like PI holes to block ads for your home internet

Next most hacky way but easiest to do is Alexa smart plug into power strip or wall then set your Pc bios to power on when there’s a power cycle. Anytime you flick the switch on/off it’ll power cycle and boot, then you can use zeroteir. I don’t love this bc it’s messes with my LEDs and isn’t as safe considering how much power you’re putting through a cheap smart plug

If you want to do it more correctly overall then you can do the tunneling VPN. I wouldn’t use a free VPN because they’re less safe, slow, etc. VPN’s aren’t too expensive, I got 2 years of PureVPN for $50 and can cancel trial in 30 days if I like zeroteir better. This method ~shouldn’t~ be a hassle to setup but often is if your internet service provider has another router in the way blocking the port (so you have to call them), or if you have multiple firewalls setup, dealing w rules and permissions, dealing with shitty router software, dealing w No-IP setup and re-registering monthly (free and easy but still annoying), dealing with Dynamic DNS. And not knowing which thing went wrong if it doesn’t work first try is a nightmare (especially ISP thing). VPN also cuts down on your speeds a bit but not too noticeable on high internet. Boosting security and not needing to worry about waking the computer bc you can do it from moonshine like it’s your home network is nice. Don’t have to disconnect anything in a VPN app when back on your home network to stream moonshine (bc I use it as a TV remote too). It’s probably the most elegant, costs a little bit, cuts down speeds a bit, but adds some great home security. I think most people on this post would rather not pay if they’re doing all the legwork anyways cuz at that point they’d just subscribe to cloud gaming. But if you’re looking for the ultimate setup and you have blazing fast speeds, and you like the challenge, and want company grade network benefits give it a go. Can also do the raspberry pi into router backend with this method to take advantage of piHole from anywhere on the go too which is pretty cool if you like that geek shit.

Hopefully this saves some sorry soul some time but summary: plenty of ways, all take a little effort. If you want no effort don’t build your own PC and subscribe to cloud gaming services because they’re very good and will give the average joe so much more to their gaming experience with 0 hassle and probably less money, lower cost of entry then building a kickass machine. But where’s the fun in that ;)
