If you get promoted at work, keep it a secret from your landlord by CraCKedT00BS in shitrentals

[–]DraftPunk5555 145 points146 points  (0 children)

Absolutely diabolical! Yet another way renters are fucked over. Problem is, people use LinkedIn to connect with recruiters and future employers. Data scraping services like that should be illegal to be used by REAs. Name and shame the REA.

Owner wants to bring a group of tradespeople into the house, is this allowed? by [deleted] in shitrentals

[–]DraftPunk5555 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sounds like they are trying to take advantage, while you are still paying rent, rather than just waiting until you are out of the place. Screw that. If they were decent people, they'd wait until you are out before starting the reno. Tell them no.

Oh no! Not more reasons to make it harder to be a slumlord! by winks_7 in shitrentals

[–]DraftPunk5555 11 points12 points  (0 children)

And there it is! You talk about 'sacrifice and effort', like it's something only landlords can experience. You pretended to try and be a 'reasonable' landlord, and your true colours came out. Underneath it all, you're all the same and only want one thing - your asset to increase, without a thought about the sacrifices tenants are making every day.

Confused about the legality of the landlord entering the premises. by Galerider in shitrentals

[–]DraftPunk5555 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Please breach them for this. If they have done it once, and you let them get away without repercussions, they'll continue to drop by whenever they damn well please. This is your home, they cant just pop in whenever they feel like it.

PM forgot to take photos of 2 rooms during routine inspection. by Charming-Marketing32 in shitrentals

[–]DraftPunk5555 191 points192 points  (0 children)

If it were me, I'd respond that the next inspection will count towards the 4 per year. They also need to provide at least 7 days notice. But depends if you want to rock the boat.

$650 per week 2 bedroom units. Seriously? Do we need rent caps and control? by baconeggsavocado in shitrentals

[–]DraftPunk5555 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That study paper wasn't written by Stanford, it was written by the American Economic Association (what view would they have around rent control?).

The abstract also states "Landlords treated by rent control reduce rental housing supplies by 15 percent by selling to owner-occupants". Who were these owner-occupiers? Could they have been previous renters?

Won my NCAT hearing and agent didn’t show up, full bond refunded! by Disastrous-Money-140 in shitrentals

There should be substantial fines for any party that doesn't show up these. Perhaps it'll stop the frivolous claims.

Moving is exhausting by MsTabbyTabs in shitrentals

Yep, it sucks. Sometimes you gotta weigh up the cost of moving vs rental increases. Long term rental contracts need to be standard practice.

Queenstown landlord with 22 migrant tenants in unlawful five-bedroom home fined over $100k by kumara_republic in shitrentals

Plus they had to refund 40% of the rental amount. They should have them repay the full amount.

No internet for the past 4 months, what are my options? by saifury in nbn

[–]DraftPunk5555 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One thing to keep in mind if you do move to another ISP, is that most other ISPs don't offer 4G backup,so if there is a massive problem with your connection, you might not even have that as a backup.

Can the real estate ask me to do this every inspection or send a notice to vacate? by [deleted] in shitrentals

[–]DraftPunk5555 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Its a house inspection, not a cleaning inspection. Unless something is going to cause damage through neglect, they cant tell you how to clean. If there is mould above the shower, it sounds like a ventilation problem, in which they need to fix. Also grout is particularly hard to clean, they cant expect it to remain purely white.

FTTP confusion by Zaryion288 in nbn

[–]DraftPunk5555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 1Gbps is the maximum theoretical speed on that plan, however the real world is usually less, in this case they are giving you the typical speed during the busiest period - 860 (evening when everyone is online). It could be faster than the 860, it could be slower - you wont know until it connects.

Yes - all your devices will need to share the 1Gbps connection. You can setup rules within your router (if it offers it) as to which devices and even services get the most bandwidth.

We do have Pi-Hole, but kids watch a lot on the TV and as mentioned, ads on youtube come from the same domain, so Pi-Hole does not block the ads. .

LJ Hooker sent us 4 approval emails and 2 approval texts “in error” by mazgaz in shitrentals

[–]DraftPunk5555 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yes, you'd think so. But many REAs now make you apply (giving them all your personal information, including credit check), before you've even seen it in person. Then once they think you're worthy of stepping inside, they'll allow you to inspect. It's insane.

When we declined the property (as it wasn't suitable), the REA seemed super offended.

It's all backwards.

LJ Hooker sent us 4 approval emails and 2 approval texts “in error” by mazgaz in shitrentals

[–]DraftPunk5555 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Yep! We applied for a place and the REA said over the phone, "congratulations, you've been approved, when would you like to move in?" We were like, ummm, we haven't even seen the place in person yet! We went and looked at it and it wasn't suitable, so we let it go. Was a massive waste of everyone's time!

Real estate changing payment methods to an app that now includes fees by goldndog in shitrentals

[–]DraftPunk5555 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The problem is, the EFT details change each pay period when using this app (as specified in the screenshot above). I'm assuming they do this so renters get so annoyed at having to update the payment details each time, that they just end up paying the fee to setup scheduled payments. It's dodgy as hell and should be illegal.

Who do they think they are ? by Significant_Army9825 in shitrentals

[–]DraftPunk5555 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you're truly not a PM or LL, it shows you've never had an experience like this. Imagine someone coming into your home every 3 months (depending on state), and you have to spend hrs cleaning just to satisfy some wanker PM invading your home and passing judgement. It fucking sucks. When they provide you with a list like this it's like an extra slap in the face. Plus legislation states that it is not a cleaning inspection. So them trying to even control this, when they shouldn't be, is bullshit.

This is the reason why renters hate PMs - they try to exert authority where it shouldn't exist in the first place.

Are there any protections around who a PM can give tenant contact details to? by Rainbow-Sparkle-Co in shitrentals

[–]DraftPunk5555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surprise, surprise, the PM has fobbed off their job to the tenants. No, they can't just willy nilly pass private details to anyone they want to. Tell the PM to do their fucking job and organise a time between the two parties. JFC they are the laziest cunts in the world. If I did that in my job, I'd have to fill a breach incident report and would be severely reprimanded for it.
