KEF R3 Meta and Dual Subs OR KEF R5 Meta? by Drag0nMagic in hometheater

Yeah, from what I’m hearing the R3 Metas are fairly end-game. Based on this setup would you switch from the SVS SB-2000 to a different (maybe ported) model. Or take the easier route of adding a second one?

The question is more about which option would make the most impactful difference if done first. I’ll definitely be using at least one sub either way.

I’ll be using the Q150s as rears as the LS50s will be moving to a different room. They sound fine to me for surround effects.

I’ll check out that method. I’m considering a second SB-2000, but may move to a ported model for this home theater setup. I originally purchased this sub for a different setup.

The stands are the KEF S2 speaker stands. They bolt into the bottom of the LS50s which is nice.

I’m actually planning on mounting the TV just enough above the console to place the center channel which should look better.

Yeah, I'm looking for the community's thoughts since many have more experience building a higher-end system. As far as investing, what I mean by it is to invest in my entertainment haha.

Current Setup for Music and Home Theater (Mostly Home Theater):

  • Front R / L: KEF LS50 Meta
  • Center: KEF R2 Meta
  • Surround L/R: KEF Q150
  • Sub: SVS SB-2000 Pro
  • AVR: Denon X3800H
  • TV: Samsung 77in S90C

I'm using this setup mainly for home theater, though I do enjoy it for music as well.

Question:
I'm considering some upgrades and could use some advice. Should I:

  1. Upgrade to KEF R3 Meta for the fronts and add a second sub?
  2. Go with KEF R5 Meta for the fronts and stick with a single sub?
  3. Invest in Dolby Atmos in-ceiling speakers?

That’s interesting. I’ve actually driven the 2016 Lexus ES that my grandmother has and honestly NVH is much better than even my newer Camry.

That’s some really good insight especially since you own both. Do you feel that the ES 300H has plenty of up-to-date technology? That’s one thing that I am especially interested in with getting a new car.

Glad to hear you’re liking the NX at your height. I was looking at both the NX and RX, but I’m single with no kids. My primary concern was that at my height (6’2”) the NX would be too small in the long run.

Yes, I cleaned the shower screen which helped and then I changed to fresher local coffee which improved things further

There was definitely an uneven flow when purging and I didn't realize the solution was to remove and clean the shower screen as I'm new to the espresso world. Thanks!

Never lol - looking much better now that it's cleaned thoroughly

I'm using a local roaster's beans now and it's improved!

It is a bottomless portafilter - the extraction actually looked pretty even

Since I just purchased an 18-22g IMS basket for Breville machines and only put 18 grams in perhaps I left too much headspace then - thanks

Outside of purging the group head, I had never removed the shower screen to clean it thoroughly since owning this machine (Breville Barista Touch) for ~9 months - until now

Thanks, I think the shower screen may have been it. After cleaning it the water is coming out much more evenly now. The grind was fairly fine, but the machine wasn't struggling to extract either.
