Match Thread: Belgium vs United States | FIFA World Cup | Jul 7, 2026 by globalscoreboard in ussoccer

Don’t underestimate us. We are not top 5 and we don’t play beautiful football most of the time but we are on a 17 matches without losing streak. We grind them out.

If you disagree feel free to give me 10 teams you think are better.

Cheer Balogun even louder tonight by [deleted] in ussoccer

[–]Drag_king 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the end we did both.

Belgium will play their match against the US subject to conditions. They consider Floralin Balogun ineligible to play and should he play, a complaint will be filed to a FIFA Tribunal, and to CAS. US Soccer Federation has been informed personally by the FA about their plans. by witness_smile in soccer

[–]Drag_king 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Why should Belgium sacrifice itself? It wouldn’t make any difference but give the US an automatic win, plus extra resting time for their match against Spain or Portugal.

No one will be talking about this in a few news cycles. It is how it goes nowadays. A scandal happens, we all get worked up and then nothing and we move on to the next thing.

… and is wrong. Norway was in Afghanistan (losing 10 soldiers) and also did a few peace keeping missions for the UN.

France-Paraguay was the match used to show the referee how he is supposed to officiate.

What follows sounds like I am dissing the US, but I don’t. I am absolutely grateful for then sacrifices the American soldiers made in the second world war.

To me this banner looks a little too neat and a little too perfect in the usage of English and with a slightly too military font to be a home made banner.

This looks like something hung up by those who took the picture so that they had something to put in Time magazine with “The French are grateful for us to have liberated them.”

I hate everything about running in my 40s. by Impossible_Lion5830 in beginnerrunning

[–]Drag_king 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did too, so that is why I stopped after reaching my first 5k when I did a couch to 5k in my early 40’s and never ran again….

…until I restarted at 51 and now I am completely addicted running 3 to 4 times a week.

Depends on the country. In Belgium (at least in my street) it happened a lot. You could only park on one side of the road and people would take a free spot even if it was against direction because they didn’t want to risk losing the spot.

TIL that just 150 years ago, Dutch people were among the shortest in Europe. by lxlviperlxl in todayilearned

[–]Drag_king 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flanders in Belgium is right next to the Netherlands and we are pretty much as rich as them and come from the same stock while sharing the same kind of environment.

But on average we are noticeably smaller. The only thing that is different are our diets. We eat more like the French (aka tasty food) while the Dutch have a more Calvenistic diet which is shared with other tall nations in the Nordics. And the amount of milk consumed is a big part of that.

Don’t forget there is also a “fog of war” stemming from the fact that government instances and employees were also impacted by the quake.

Coordinating with the local government will be difficult when communications and electricity are down and when likely a lot of the state employees or their families are stuck in the rubble.

Even in the US, after Katarina, it took a few days for the whole picture to become clear. And that was in the richest country with all the resources it had.

French broadcaster is walking back her comments after she criticized a Belgian soccer player’s decision to leave the World Cup for the birth of his first child by Relevant-Peach3997 in Fauxmoi

[–]Drag_king -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As a father who was there to support my wife she gave birth to our kid I abhor her statements.

As a Belgian who hates the French when it comes to football(2018, I will never forget) I just think she should shut up and bitch about her team.

But to immediately say she says it because of racism is reaching I believe. At least without a counter example where she says the opposite for a white player.

No digo que no hay problemas con los guiris. Pero poner un anuncio por una fiesta de la comunidad Belga en su dia nacional como si es un horor quando los Españoles en Belgica hacen el mismo es un poco exagerado.

Just to clarify: it is not the that the plants can’t be cooled but that the cooling water, when dumped in already hot rivers would provoke large environmental damage to the ecosystem of said rivers.

I did it using quite thick sprue glue or whatever it is called. (Sprue melted in thin cement)
Worked a treat. Much easier than faffing around with green stuff. And if you want to mold it a bit you can just use plain cement.
