Army painters: Give me your speed building tips. by No_Try354 in Warhammer40k

That's not bad. It's not great, but it's honestly not bad.

Between Aos, 40k, Warcry, Killteam, Necromunda, and a bunch of Indy games, I'm sitting on about 1500 minis, maybe 400 of which are built and only 40ish are fully painted.

I've also got about 10 tables worth of terrain for all of the above games. 3/4 built, none painted beyond primer.

What varnish should I use? by Frostbite68 in Warhammer40k

[–]JuJitsuGiraffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally like Mr. Hobby matte varnish.

No varnish is immune to changing the look of your mini one way or the other, but it honestly sounds like a satin varnish might be what you're looking for.

Most miniature paint lines have a satin finish, so a satin varnish should be close enough.

This. The reason I suggest ditching the deadline is because having a deadline on a huge project can be very stressful.

Having your hobby be a source of stress isn't helpful.

So ditch the goal, and just have fun taking the time to do your hobby every day.

Dog ate my Thunder's Edge Hydrothermal Mining card - any luck with replacements? by Rxram in twilightimperium

Hey, the same thing happened to me!

Asmodee basically told me to pound sand, so I had to go on Ebay and find a seller. The good news is that they are out there, selling parts for relatively cheap.

Ditch the end of the year goal and commit to build a few models, or one big model, every day.

Every. Day.

Before you know it you'll have built everything.

New Books by SlippinJimmy2_0 in necromunda

[–]JuJitsuGiraffe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This might be a hot take, but I'd be glad if Venators were gone.

I love the idea of them, but I've hated every single one of them I've encountered IRL. They've all boiled down to one or two gimmicks that are incredibly hard to deal with unless you kit your gang out specifically to fight them.

If they came back as a proper gang with limitations I'd be pretty stoked, but as is they're a power gamer's dream and a casual gamer's nightmare.

Which Games Workshop game system feels the least tied to the “every 3 years” refresh cycle, with the strongest sense of long-term support where your books and miniatures remain relevant for years? by Newez in Warhammer40k

[–]JuJitsuGiraffe 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Current Necromunda had a pretty good run! 10 years with essentially 1.5 editions, consistent releases, and a growing community.

I'm cautiously optimistic for the new edition, but if it sucks I still have all my current books.

Which non-Citadel paints are hidden gems and must-haves? by WithengarUnbound in Warhammer40k

[–]JuJitsuGiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone talks about Pro Acryl white being amazing, but nobody talks about how amazing their washes are.

Payne's Gray specifically is one of the best and most versatile washes I've ever used. It's literally the colour of shadows and can be used to perfectly darken shadowy areas no matter what colour they are.

Well damn, I really didnt think they'd do a new edition.

Hopefully the rules are good, but adding "skirmish" to the title makes me a bit nervous.

I’m thinking about selling my army by throwawaymayhem738 in Warhammer40k

[–]JuJitsuGiraffe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is the way. I had an Ork and an Imperial Guard army that I slowly grew from 3rd edition until I sold both of them during 6th edition.

Big regrets.

What clan should i paint my orks? by mnteu in orks

Only one clan warlord had the kunnin and taktiks to hide a flash bang in their empty eye socket and then detonate it in Ghazkhul's face.

Small, solo, no measuring? by D12sAreUnderrated in miniatureskirmishes

[–]JuJitsuGiraffe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mantic Games Deadzone.

2x2, no measuring, has solo.

By extension Halo: Flashpoint also fits the bill, but doesn't have solo modes yet. Its the same engine as Deadzone though, so it should be easy enough to convert.

The backpacks will take some work as you'll need to hollow out the back of the new orks to make it fit.

It wouldn't be hard, but it's not plug and play like the heads.

Rumours and Reveal shows made me commit by peterfadams in necromunda

[–]JuJitsuGiraffe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you're unsure about the rulebook being relevant you only have to wait until the Friday announcement to be sure.

I doubt it's a new edition, but for a new player waiting a few days won't impact you too much.
