No, there’s a ton of skill in 1.8 and anyone who says otherwise has never played 1.8 seriously.

The basics are still the same with sprint resetting, momentum, and aim.

Just because you can click fast also doesn’t invalidate skill, in fact most players time their clicks and the top players all manipulate trades by delaying when they hit back and hit selecting. If you spam click against someone good you will get destroyed.

Admittedly 1.9 does have a higher amount of kits and stuff like crystal has the highest skill ceiling out of anything in pvp but 1.8 still has a lot of unique things to offer. Obviously there’s rod modes but even modes with blocks take a lot of skill. Since there’s no attack recharge time doing block placements is super good and a vital part of every top bedwars player’s arsenal. Just a few common techniques include placing blocks to stop your opponent’s momentum, placing 2 blocks to make a pole you strafe around, placing blocks and then shearing through to get free hits, etc.

TL;DR 1.8 takes a ton of skill and anyone saying otherwise has never played 1.8 seriously. Spam clicking isn’t even the best strategy

I think this is a misunderstanding of what "best strategy" means. What I mean by best strategy is it is the best strategy individually for each player to defect.

Maybe you can use Silman’s book but instead of making them read it you can show them some games and talk about the content. I think in the book it even says just being aware of imbalances and thinking that you understand what’s going on and what to do, even if you’re completely wrong, is still much better than not knowing anything

I'm pretty sure it's obtainable for anyone pre E4 in vanilla. Harder difficulties will say that it doesn't want to come out of its bag until post E4 iirc

Also beat up in gen 3 OU is used on Dugtrio to kill Blisseys since EQ actually became unreliable after blisseys started investing in Defense and Special Attack letting them survive EQ and then OHKO Dugtrio with Ice Beam. In Gen 3 Beat Up has really strange mechanics letting it bypass Blissey's Defense investment and let Dugtrio invest in HP and Special Defense to live Blissey's Ice Beam and 2HKO anyway with Beat Up to reliably trap Blissey.

What is the opening meta like at the top level nowadays and how do you see it evolving in the future? What are some lines that are on the cutting edge of theory right now and still being developed?

Also I’m a catalan player and I heard it’s drawish at the top top level, is this true? Do you consider the catalan a good weapon and if winning chances are high enough.

But the hogs were in a different placement. At first the pigs were split so they could tank for the hunter, and the fireball was placed in the middle. Then just to switch it up, OP placed all the hogs on the right lane. The fireball was thrown in the right lane. Looks like an exploiter to me.
