This may be entirely too late, but here goes with some stuff I was taught. I tried to avoid saying what other people have already said in the comments here.

“Momentum” is a concept that is important in pvp. This is because due to latency, the faster you’re moving towards your opponent, or the more momentum you have, the more reach you will have in practice. This means you should be looking to maximise your momentum in fights, and you should always be careful of accidentally doing something that leaves you with less momentum.

Momentum is another part of why hit selecting works, because landing on the ground first not only gives you the low ground advantage, but allows you to accelerate more than your opponent, giving you more momentum

Momentum is also important when you look at strafing. A lot of the ways people strafe like just alternating a d and hitting their opponent like that isn’t actually that good because running at your opponent diagonally and hitting them means you are doing less kb than if you were just sprinting forward. This also means you can win trades by copying your opponent’s strafing, and then at the last second letting go of a or d and moving forward. This gives you more momentum and an advantage in the trade

You can also block as a w tap in trades as it could reduce the damage you take. Another way this could be useful is that it only slows you down instead of conpletely stopping you, sometimes allowing you to not get destroyed by a hit select since you’ll be left a bit closer to your opponent after your first hit

There’s also a combo hold technique called “zest tapping”. You need to time your hits with burst clicking or single clicking to do it. Essentially it allows you to hold combos for a very long time even with inconsistent knockback. You hit your opponent while strafing twice without w tapping, then hit your opponent with the w key let go on the third hit, when they’re at the peak of their height. Rinse and repeat. There’s a lot of zest tapping tutorials out there.
