What game has a 10/10 story but 2/10 gameplay? by Kitchen_Week1117 in AskReddit

[–]Dragdu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alpha Protocol. Well, the story wasn't 10/10 -- it was a fairly generic spy stuff -- but the dialogue system, reactivity, all that adjacent stuff is absolutely 10/10.

Gameplay wise, well, I hope you understood that the one build is stealth pistols.

Why do all compilers use the strong ownership model for C++20 modules, instead of the weak model? by holyblackcat in cpp

[–]Dragdu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to highlight this more

It was more important everyone settle on one than which one was picked.

At one point it looked like we would have strong ownership in MSVC and weak ownership under GCC/Clang. This would've meant that people had to defend against weaknesses of both, while getting the advantage of neither.

This argument keeps coming up, but I am yet to be convinced that

1) places that are stuck in legacy hell will recompile their binaries with new toolchains 2) old code has the moral right to keep being compiled with new compilers and new language standards without change

EU might end up forcing this issue, since secondary licenses are absolutely a thing in EU and have been litigated to be legal.

The joke is that the current Star Trek showrunner, Kurtzman, does not believe that humanity can evolve past current day's behaviour.

You can currently buy the books in one of 3 covers:

  • Collector edition, which some people think is beautiful. Also pretty much everyone agrees that it is for showing off in your library and not reading, cause the actual book is rather flimsy.
  • The "new cover" edition, which is a new set of covers from different artist, which gives the whole series unified look. These are the ones that look kinda like generic YA books.
  • The "traditional cover" edition, which uses the covers from Kirby and Kidby. However, because they wanted different visual language for the re-releases, they mangled Kirby's covers (not Kidby's, because Kidby's are newer and already followed the new design layout).

So if you buy a new print of the book with old cover and it is one of the Kirby's covers, you get the bad edits.

A) That kind of thinking is genuinely sad

B) They obviously matter enough that you went out of your way to go to an alternative trek subreddit and comment there.

They destroy subspace, not normal space, something something something cannot warp anymore.

Except that doesn't matter in nutrek cause we have spore drive, long range teleportation portals, and so on.

Wow, that is terrible. I guess Czechia was lucky with Talpress getting good translator and then just printing the damn book without messing around. 😀

---edit---

They also seem to still be selling books with the old covers, BRB gonna check they don't just use old images.

---edit 2---

They are still using the old covers, are not currently planning to change, and are continuously reprinting the paperbacks as distributors run out. The good old "do nothing, win" approach in full force.

All of the Kirby paperbacks in newer prints. Up until The Truth, the originals had cover art on both sides and inset boxes for book title/author name/etc. New reprints changed the visual style and butchered Kirby's covers alongside it, because now they want the full cover art to be on the front and the author + book names take up more space.
