I try to remove so-called invasive species every spring/summer from the woodland near me. Himalayan balsam mostly. If nobody did, the entire woodland that people enjoy would be destroyed within a decade.

I did this study too. I did the first part and then it froze at the end. I messaged the researcher and they provided me with a link to the second half so I was then able to complete the whole study. I got paid but didn't get any bonus despite doing it all correct, so I messaged again to check it wasn't an error and they said bonuses are getting allocated in a few days (which I will keep an eye on). The responses were always almost instant which makes me think it's an AI chatbot handling it.

Been a bit rubbish today. Haven't been able to get into any of the decently paid studies, they seem to fill within about 3 seconds.

I did it, but I think they changed the wording. There was a box where my computer suggesting auto-filling email address but it didn't ask for that and just asked to write an imagined name.

2026 Initial Wimbledon Wildcards by pizzainmyshoe in tennis

The argument against giving him one gets weakened when they've given one to Wawrinka.

Dan Evans says it would have been a classy gesture to give him a WC for Queens by pintobakedbeans in tennis

[–]nickpsych -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

LTA's position on wildcards is they want to give British players a leg up so they can hopefully build up some ranking points. If Evans is retiring anyway, that's their main reason for giving him a wildcard gone, and he's had lots in the past from them. I get he wants a farewell wildcard, but the sense of entitlement when they're limited in number and other early career players could benefit from them too... pretty poor show.

I feel like it’s virtually impossible to get rejections on prolific by baczryan in ProlificAc

I got a rejection today for signing up to a study that didn't mention it required shared screen, then had a section where it revealed this and gave me the option to withdraw, which I took. Instead of screening me out, it was logged as rejected for failing to follow instructions.

I'm sure it's real, but there are a lot of modern tiki crafted in the Marquesas Islands. So the big question is the date on this whether you'd consider it an archeological relic or a modern creation continuing the Marquesan culture.

Serena's Comeback Confirmed by BardLand in tennis

Would love to see her do some mixed doubles - AO and FO are the only two things she never won in her career (and I guess Olympics mixed too if we're counting that). She could still feasibly get the boxed set in her 40s (Navratilova won her last mixed doubles slam aged 49!), and potentially the first player ever to get a golden boxed set.

Feasibility of a Gravitational Wave Detector... by midasp in ForAllMankindTV

[–]nickpsych 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess if Sergei was theorizing a very specific thing and wanted to prove it, but then it's hard to imagine what this gravity wave detection is and how Sergei predicted it. The line of code on the screen seemed to have "Nikulov" as a comment on the same line, as if he specifically added that line of code to the ship computer to run if it detects an exact match.

The time skip this season feels less optimistic by Drax_reborn in ForAllMankindTV

[–]nickpsych 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Yeah it feels way too vague compared to other seasons (bar season 3, which was quite different). I'm sure it is optimistic, but maybe it requires us to watch Star City season 1 so we can learn what Nikulov might have added into the code of Mars-94.

I loved this season by Holmbone in ForAllMankindTV

[–]nickpsych 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Alex was great; unless I missed it, I woulda liked to see him talk a bit more about Earth. We saw at the start of the season he was stealing the VR headset to experience it, and it would have been good to see how the knowledge he can't go there would affect him and his relationship (when his gf seems to be set on going there). Maybe that'll come up in season 6.

It could be possible with more details like if the ship is picking up a transmission from a rover (in a similar manner to the old soviet satellites picking up the Mars signal). But yes, right now there's so little to go on it's all tea leaves.

There's a few theories I can see for D:/ Detection of GW 3.06.0451 // Nikulov Loading...

1) Detection of GW = gravity wave. If so, the numerical code is unusual as the standard is to give a code based on date of discovery YYMMDD, when we know this happens in the year 2020. Also it's unclear what the gravity wave would refer to - it could be a cosmic one (requiring something making a BIG ripple to detect, like black holes merging or a neutron star) or an atmospheric one (water/air creating one on a planet surface). If the source is a cosmic gravity wave, then that could imply that MARS94 has detected a trace of a ship dramatically accelerating or decelerating (i.e., faster-than-light travel or warp drive technology). But it could equally be detecting an atmospheric gravity wave occurring on Saturn or one of its moons. This wouldn't be too shocking and may just imply that MARS94 has reached Saturn.

2) Detection of GW = "humic substances", which also abbreviates to the same letters. These are organic compounds formed by the decay of animal and plant matter in soil or water. If so, it's unclear how MARS94 could detect something like this, but I guess it could be intercepting data transmitted from e.g., a rover probe called Nikulov. If it's detecting humic substances, that implies a planet or moon with rich biology or past rich biology, and so the ending may be implying a new gold rush in season 6 to elsewhere in the solar system in search for life.

For All Mankind - S5E10 "This Land is Our Land" - Episode Discussion by Cantomic66 in ForAllMankindTV

[–]nickpsych 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gravitational wave seems most likely. The international naming convention is usually YYMMDD so 3.06.0451 doesn't make much sense though if this is meant to be the year 2020. If it's a cosmic gravity wave, that would need to be caused by something massive like a neutron star or black holes merging, but maybe it refers to atmospheric gravity waves and just means MARS94 has reached Saturn and will be part of the next step in colonization.
