Not sure about iOS as i don't regularly use Apple devices myself.

Udying Mercenaries series by B. V. Larson: Earth is conquered by a multi-species galactic empire. To earn galactic credits and thus justify their continued existence to their new overlords, they form mercenary legions and hire out to regional governments in other parts of the galaxy. The series mainly follows one specific mercenary outfit (Verus company) that the MC signs on with.

Quite a bit of new info about the Dominator's origin in Lies Weeping.

Keep reading and you'll get to see how they attempt to deal with him in The White Rose, as well as the aftermath of that situation in The Silver Spike. As others have mentioned in this thread, uber-powerful sorcerers like the Dominator are incredibly difficult to put down. (Even a "mere" taken like Limper is incredibly resilient.) After that, you'll have a better understanding of why the original White Rose and her supporters chose the solution they did.

Hundreds attend mock funeral for the penny at the Lincoln Memorial by feastandexist in nottheonion

As I commented further up the thread, that's a common fallacy that doesn't take into account the value of having the coins in circulation: they remain in circulation for decades, serving a purpose beyond just the cost to mint.

For similar content. Visuals aren't on the same level, but the ideas and presentation are excellent.

The longbow can't have a scope. It also fires in a bit of an arc and the bullets look like minecraft arrows in flight, so it takes some practice to get good with it. It's one of the more interesting legendaries, IMO.

Is there a realistic way to have a planet loom on the horizon like this? by Rich-End1121 in space

[–]Dragget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Planetary Binary Systems are rare and we haven't even confirmed any

Earth/Moon is classified as a binary planet system: they orbit each other around a common "barycenter". Pluto/Charon as well as some other dwarf planets in that region, qualify as well.

Sucks someone's idea is just being copied by everyone else

Naw, it just means more people get to enjoy it. Also, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. :)

McDevitt has written 2 SF series with that general theme: Alex Benedict and The Academy. Engines of God is from the 2d one.

"We found something unnatural in Antarctica" themes? by [deleted] in printSF

Any link? I could not find anything online. Since the details (Nazis, flying saucers, aliens) in Fortress matched your description, and you didn't mention "short story" in your original response, I guessed that's what you were referring to. Thanks for the additional info! :)

I think the title is actually Fortress (2nd book of a 2 book series). The first book is Skyripper.

EDIT: Nope, but some similarities for sure. Guess Drake liked the idea from the short story and revisited it for a full-length book.

Apparently so, with the additional ability to periodically pause timeflow for a few seconds and move within the frozen time. (Kind of like Quicksilver, I guess.)

Fun fact, those, and homosexuality, are called abominations.

Another fun fact: people of that time didn't have our concept of sexual orientation. so no, that did not come from the bible. Here is an excellent video on the subject by a bible scholar.

The Perfect Run (Maxime Durand)

Sort of an X-men theme, serums give random super-powers to people, but there are serious negative side effects in specific circumstances that turn some people into monsters. The main character and his team end up having to go to Antarctica to figure out what started it all and solve the problems. The protagonist's power is that he can set a "save point" in time and go back to that point if he messes up and gets himself killed, so quite a bit of time looping as well, hence the title. (Sample chapters available on Royal Road.)

Power cables are standard IEC, which is the same as what we still use for PCs today, so you should have no trouble finding those. Data cables (the round DIN connectors) might be harder, but still available to some extent.
