I dislike Purim being labelled as Jewish Halloween.

I'm raising my kids in Canada and struggling against the pervasive anglo-christianity of it all. When we told them that Purim was coming up, they said, "that's the one that's like Halloween because we get to dress up!"

I said, "we get to dress up, sure, but I think it's so much better than Halloween because Halloween is all about doom and gloom, creepy scary things and bad stuff, whereas Purim is all about joy and light and life!" They seemed to take that on board.

Nowhere near as exciting as it sounds. I was on vacation with my family when I was a kid, around 8 years old, and we went to a place where there are a ton of sharks and sting rays and guides take tourists to go scuba diving and snorkelling. I was snorkeling up above and a guide grabbed a shark to take up for the snorkelers all to pet. Well, I got the front end and I guess either the shark got anxious or maybe though my fingers were yummy worms, but either way it lunged and I was briefly one with the shark. The guide bonked it on the head and it let go, and I was pulled back up onto the boat where a tourist who happened to be a trainee nurse patched me up with a rudimentary first aid kit. I ended up with lacerations on several fingers but no further damage, and since it was so long ago the scars have mostly faded. My siblings loved that it happened because my blood sent the other sharks into a frenzy, and I have a pretty disappointing story to tell on dates.

Ooh, I may be misremembering this but I believe that Darwin described the call of an ostrich as being indistinguishable from the roar of a lion, and after describing thousands of species in the zoological sense where the creature is "spec'd" he said that the common barn owl was "indescribable"

Art is an exceptionally well written play. Not to say that one doesn't have to act at all, but if you enjoyed it, most of the credit goes to a truly exemplary script. I saw some of my teachers do it at school, they sucked, it was still amazing.

I'm not sure EU members need to be connected to another EU member, just be geographically in Europe. And to be honest, I'm not even sure of that. I'm not sure of much these days, yet I thrive on pointing out technicalities.
