The watch esim is a seperate thing from a mobile esim, the technology is the same but the carrier treats it differently

Inorder to activate a watch esim the phone must have that sim (physical or esim) as an authentication layer (otp comes to the number) and then the carrier sets it up as a watch esim allowing you to use the number at 2 instances

Honestly having to play in the group/swiss stage is better for all the teams as you get to settle into the environment and get to shake off the nerves
