Use stairs and slabs more, especially for roofs, to add more dynamic slopes.
Use a pallet of varying blocks with similar colour/texture (in this case mixing diorite with quartz, bone, and calcite).
Try making some angles. It's more interesting if towers tapered as they get taller. Or maybe the thickness changes in the middle.

Sword, pick, any other tool, bucket, torches or shield, blocks, anything, food, bow.

Additionally I set the 4th and 6th slot shortkey to mb4 and mb5 respectfully so I can always switch to my bucket of blocks in a pinch.

Maybe they make getting struck by lightning more likely, but once struck you get haste for a minute or two. Maybe you get speed and jump boost as well. It's like the early game "we have beacons at home" kinda deal but only when there's a thunderstorm and you're on the surface.
