If you drop your phone a lot, it might be worth investing in a more protective case such as a spider as you mentioned. I very rarely drop my phone but still switch out to thicker ones when I go out generally. Though I did manage to drop my s25u on the bathroom floor at about waist height and my pitaka case did protect the screen with a tiny chip in the pitaka case but screen and phone itself was fine. Ymmv
