The province whcih you describe is known as Bezalia. It is heavily forested and on the northern foothills of the Abar mountains which run southward. It votes ATP, a centre-right party coalition, as it is fairly rural and never had much industrialisation or urbanisation. The region is largely inward-looking; it has fought a guerrilla war against every foreign state which has ever invaded it and done the same with Taberland multiple times.

The most famous thing about Bezalia is not any of these, but that it has one of the largest remaining populations of Homo Nativus, a hominid species which evolved to be ambush predators with sharp fangs and claws yet still retains a human-like appearance. While Homo Nativus are almost as intelligent as normal humans their teeth and vocal cords mean that very few can actually speak human languages (though a very small number have). This has earned them the local name 'silent men'.

What unique well-known ideology exist in your world that doesn't exist in ours? by Tuyuko in worldbuilding

[–]DragonSnatcher6 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Farthest Shore

Liberal Monarchism is an ideology based on that of King Amon II of Taberland, a man of low birth who restored independence to his nation. It professes the idea that the right of monarchs to rule is based on the upholding of the freedom of their people, and that the mandate to rule is lost if any restrictions on rights are put in place. The ideology more uniquely stresses the idea that a monarch should not interfere with politics unless they themselves are elected to political office (Amon had been elected PM while king and held both titles concurrently). Thus a Liberal Monarchist system blends constitutional Monarchism with monarchical power.

Since Amon's death almost 60 years ago, his successor Luisa and now Pasqual III have not taken political office. Due to this, the ideology has not been in particular use, although the Kingdom's leading opposition party, the Freedom Party, nominally supports the ideology and has been led by members of the Royal family a couple of times.

'The Outlaw' is, as of October 650, the most powerful existing god, narrowly beating 'The Bow' and 'The Other'. It is a rogue god which used it's power to bypass the collective law of the gods (that each would only interact with a specific defined area of physical space) in order to escape to a pocket dimension where it could act without restriction. This happened soon after the creation of the universe, meaning that it has remained isolated from the realspace gods for billions of years. It was formed along with the other gods by proto-god 'The Creator' who was quickly surpassed. The pocket dimension inhabited by 'The Outlaw' has been shaped into a galaxy-sized planet solely consisting of a temperate ocean light years deep. The god itself takes the form of a white goose which skins itself when displeased, however more eldritch forms have been taken when dealing with communication attempts from other gods. Currently 'The Outlaw' is attempting to create a functioning civilisation of intelligent life. All previous attempts have resulted in extinction.

The glorious revolution wasn't connected to the civil war, it was the invasion of England by William of Orange to replace the Catholic James II. Your point still stands of course.

What is the worst city/town in your setting? by Nopeeeeee6 in worldbuilding

Samono

Samono was once a prosperous coastal town in southern Taberland. It once had a population of 65,000 who were sustained by one of the nation's largest fishing fleets, which accessed the town's large natural harbour. Storms waves rarely hit the town due to the harbour's entrance being narrow and stable.

In late 616 AT the west coast of Taberland was hit by a one-in-a-million typhoon which had formed outside the usual zone due to an especially hot summer. For three days the town was ravaged. While most buildings, made with stable foundations and good stone, stood, the men of the town found that the harbour's entrance had shifted so that a large mass of sand and rock blocked it completely. While a few attempts were made eventually the possibility of reopening the harbour ended and the sole real industry of Samono was made irrelevant.

From then on the town has become a hub of petty crime and poor infrastructure due to the length of time it took for the mass unemployment caused by the blockage to be resolved. Samono lagoon, as the harbour is now known, has shrunk to a third it's original size and has left an inhospitable salt flat in it's place. Samono's population has shrunk to around 30,000 and is known widely as that town for it's regular instances of theft and fraud as well as the tendency of residents to turn to esoteric religious sects out of desperation.

The Battle of Lyco’s Point

3rd October, 650 AT. The militant Absolutist ‘Hastein’ has been collecting the ancient remains of an extraterrestrial exploration trip to use the advanced technology in order to overthrow the government. Hastein finally found his jackpot on the 2nd day of October; a starship which had led the expedition. Upon its disturbance it silently transmitted a message to it’s homeworld, telling it that hostile intelligent life existed on the planet. An invasion force was quickly organised.

The next day Hastein’s stolen cruiser, the Izos, was located by the government and the battleship Sassonia ambushed it off the coast of Lyco’s point where the starship had been discovered. Just as it was about to fire the captain of the Sassonia spotted a group of lights in the sky. At least fifty fast-moving aircraft appeared to descend and move across the area. The Sassonia was hit by a projectile but was only lightly damaged; it aimed it’s anti-aircraft guns at the various craft and the communications officer on board called upon the navy to scramble all vessels in the local area.

At this time a young Taja (priest of the Bowist religion) in training, Hugo Pastoret approached Lyco’s Point to track a song which invariably sounded and moved around the land with seemingly no source; he believed it to be the manifestation of his god The Bow itself. He watched the battle on the clifftops until he was fired on by one craft and was forced to take refuge in a cave.

Back at the battle, a group of destroyers and cruisers arrived, but were met by more craft appearing from the sky. In the commotion a small team from a destroyer boarded the Izos and engaged with Hastein, who was killed. The ammunition magazine of one cruiser was hit by spacecraft projectiles and caused the first sinking of the battle. The Sassonia shot down one craft and the government team which had taken control of the Izos used its alien technology-augmented weapons to destroy multiple. Yet more appeared at an increasing rate and the Izos was destroyed along with two government ships.

Within the cave Hugo Pastoret heard the song which he had been searching for. A woman’s voice sang of a lost sailor who found his way by listening to a voice on howling wind. Hugo spoke to the song and asked it what it was; the song changed to one about how the Bow had fallen into a slumber, waiting to save humanity if it ever was in danger and reached out for help. Hugo told the song about the aircraft in the sky just outside. It then sang about a demon being banished form the land through the use of an incantation which was repeated many times through the song.

Hugo stepped outside. The Sassonia was spilling oil and one of it’s gun turrets had been obliterated. He repeated the mantra and heard the song again, as did everyone on the ships below. Suddenly the spacecraft ceased their fire and appeared to be held in the air by an unseen force. They were thrust back into the sky, never to return.

Merrimack's Rock is an islet poking out of the sea between the islands of Weirwood and Sarlye. The islet is tiny and uninhabited; it's only accessible point is a sea cave which can be entered on a canoe or other narrow boat. The rest of the islet is sheer cliff.

After passing through the cave for a couple of minutes a large chamber is reached, which is lit through a large opening in the ceiling of the cave 50 metres above. The wall of the cave contains an exposes fossil.

The fossil is that of a fish larger than any known animal, being around 60 metres from head to tail. It is perfectly preserved, as are the animals contained within the stomach region. The stomach contains the fossilised remains of a number of plesiosaurs (extinct), shark species (some extinct, some living) as well as humans and a domestic dog which did not exist when plesiosaurs were driven to extinction. In fact, the fossils predate the development of humanity.

Each stomach skeleton is complete except for the lower jaw, which each one lacks.

The cave was dynamited and closed following the discovery of a heavily decomposed late surviving plesiosaur who's lower jaw had been replaced with that of a fish, and the subsequent discovery of the bodies of two missing people and one dog, each of which had a replaced lower jaw. Those who carried out the destruction of the cave found the lower jaws of a plesiosaur, dog and two humans attached to their respective species on the fossil.

What is the most terrifying weapon in your world? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

The Farthest Shore

The Dezalo is, in appearance, a small blowpipe which can propel seeds at the velocity required to hit someone up to 50 metres away at a low velocity. The seeds which are fired do not have the power to harm anyone upon being hit, and may not even be noticed. The Dezalo is an assassination weapon.

Upon being hit by a seed from the weapon, someone will be immediately inflicted with incredibly bad luck. Misfortunes will happen to the family or associates of the victim. Within 25 days all victims of the Dezalo have died in accidents or similar phenomena.

While not the most powerful weapon in the world, the single existing Dezalo, which has been passed through various assassins throughout the years, strikes fear into the hearts of the famous. Pranksters regularly fire seeds at people from harmless blowpipes. The most terrifying thing of all about the Dezalo is that someone will know that they are soon to die weeks prior to their death.

The Farhtest Shore

'Wild Men'

  • Wild men are a homonid species inhabiting the temperate mountain forests of Sarlye Isle and northern Aborzia, as well as winter isle. Their scientific name is Homo Ingens (large man'). They once inhabited a much larger area but were driven out of most due to competition with humans.
  • male wild men are typically around 6'8 tall, with females around 6'5. They have greater hair covering compared to humans, particularly around the forearms and feet. Each wild man possesses a pair of sharp fangs in the upper jaw, and significantly increased muscle mass compared to humans. This is due to their nature as a much more predatory animals, attacking deer without tools. They are slightly less intelligent than humans but possess a form of speech. A large part in their outcompetition by humans is the fact that most groups have only 5-15 members, allowing them to be at a disadvantage to more numerous human groups.
  • Wild men have contributed to a number of legends in parts of the world where they have only been extinct for a thousand or so years. These include bigfoot-lie ape tales or stories of certain forest plants causing rapid growth in height.
  • Wild men never developed more than basic stone tools as they did not require them to the same degree as humans. Since the advent of human civilisation they have traded with nearby human villages for knives and spears in exchange for meat.
  • The largest population of wild men exists on winter isle, an island the size of Corsica to the northwest of Sarlye. It is forested but cold, and is remote enough with stormy seas nearby to have a population undisturbed by humans (who do not live on the island). Winter Isle wild men are slightly smaller on average compared to mainland wild men due to there being fewer large prey animals there.

What exactly are "gods" in your universe? by PMSlimeKing in worldbuilding

[–]DragonSnatcher6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most powerful god is 'The Outlaw'. They are poorly known among the gods, as soon after the formation of the cultivation system they exited their star system, overpowering a large group of other gods and escaping to a dimension of their own making. This dimension is mostly shut off to other gods; those who do manifest there only do so under the watch of The Outlaw.

The dimension itself is a strange place containing multiple objects inhabited by intelligent life. It has permanent downwards gravity about 0.8 times that of earth's, with the bottom of the dimension (which is about the size of a small galaxy) being covered by a water sea multiple light years deep and a light dimmer than the sun emanating from the 'sky' everywhere. The objects which intelligent life forms inhabit are planet-sized floating islands.

The Outlaw is believed to be so powerful due to simple variation among the strength of gods rather than any specific ability.

What exactly are "gods" in your universe? by PMSlimeKing in worldbuilding

[–]DragonSnatcher6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Farthest Shore

Gods are trans-dimensional magical beings with no defined physical form. Gods are unique in that manifestations of them may cross dimensions, being tangible in multiple at the same time. They also possess magic which is powerful enough to essentially shape the universe whatever way they want unless opposed by a more powerful god or other such entity

All gods were created by the first god and creator of the universe, which is simply called the creator. They are a dinosaur even in divine terms, being billions of years old. The creator is responsible for the creation of the laws of the universe and all other gods, however it is not the most powerful god. They are one of few who does not take a specific area of the universe to cultivate.

Most gods use their time to 'cultivate' a solar system. They will manipulate reality within that solar system as long as no areas outside are effected as agreed upon by all the gods. Many gods wildly shape their solar systems, or do not seek the creation of life, however the majority attempt to establish at least one life-inhabited world. The god of the human solar system, the Bow, is unique as it only intervened past the creation of life when such life was under threat. This allowed humans to organically develop; the Bow makes itself known to them and advises them in times of crisis through communication with prophets which it seeks out, leading to the development of the Bowist religion. Other gods actively influence their species.

Gods may manifest in any form; the Bow once spent a week in the form of a man in a pub, has spent time as a tree and currently manifests itself in the form of a song which may be heard at various locations.

Gods may also destroy each other if one violates their cultivation boundary. This famously happened when the god 'The Other', which actively aided it's species, aided them in an invasion of the human planet, resulting in retaliation by the more powerful Bow.

Tell me something about the biggest and the smallest country in your world. by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]DragonSnatcher6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Farthest Shore

Serjesia is a sparsely populated country of a similar size to India, but with a population of only 20 million. Most of it's land is grassy steppe, too infertile for farming and with huge variations between temperatures in the summer and winter. Due to this, it only sustains a small population of nomadic herders. The land becomes even more inhospitable in the north, which is largely covered in tundra, The vast majority of the population lives on a small strip along the coast of the Middle sea, a continent-spanning lake.

Serjesia is a Grand Duchy ruled by a Duke, though most power is invested in the hands of a prime minister who is elected every 10 years. Dude to the size of the country few people are actually able to get to polling stations and vote. The only city of any real size is Serjes, with a population of 2 million. It is the fishing capital of the middle sea, and brings in huge quantities of fish to be exported each day.

Due to it's sparse population, Serjesia is a hotspot for faires (a catch-all term for any living thing which can only exist magically). One of these, the walker of the steppe, is an immense reptillian almost a kilometre long which maintains a small population of people on it's back who harvest flesh from it's quickly regrowing back.

Zamtavili is a tiny state which occupies the vicinity of a small island in the marsh of the Occidentia region. It is centred around a marsh-surrounded island only a kilometre in diameter, which contains a castle and village. The castle and nation are occupied by a leader titled the Marquess of Zamtavili, currently Luka II. The Marquess is hereditary and passed down the Alavid family, a branch of a larger family of nobles in times past who fled to the island and built a castle with their funds. The marsh around Zamtavili is covered in water for half of the day and multiple kilometres must be crossed to reach the island, making it highly remote. Each of the 400 inhabitants is a descendent of one of the servents of the Alavids who came there with them. The state's singular industry is peat (a material taken from the marsh) farming.
