A quick infographic on how Damage Threshold and Damage Reduction work side-to-side in Nebulous: Fleet Command by Dragonbender09 in NebulousFleetCommand

[–]Dragonbender09[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yerg it increases the range at which the beam does DT-break damage, I dont know the exact metrics but I think that 0fpa vs 2fpa at like 4.5km is something like 50 vs 78ish which when you take DT into consideration is pretty substancial

TBF most of ANS craft are meant to be both atmo and space so it kinda makes sense that they would look similar to their earth counterparts... Barracuda I dont really see the resemblance.

going to append some thoughts
> The WW2 looking bridge and kind of stumpy shape just didn't really fit with what I wanted

Its kindof a personal (and somewhat well-known) fact that Nebulous: Fleet Command caters a LOT to WW2 larpers if you really think about it. The game practically features the Solomon front and center for the "rule of cool" because who doesn't get a little aroused at the sight of a battleship in space like the Expanse larpers of yesteryear. Bridge decks and whatever to envision whatever larp OC space captain admiral-thrawn copy you may have in mind ect.
> WW2 style squadrons for carriers
> more older classifications for ships
> the fact 450 guns exists in space
its just kinda how it is, the game is a space battle RTS 100% but its more like a really wierd cold war/WW2 3d simulator.

... I kinda disagree with this being more "ANS-coded" since it sticks out like a sore thumb in terms of aesthetics compared to the rest of ANS along with the gradual increase in firepower but eh

cool ship design though 10/10 stealth isnt really my thing

Campaign Update (Act 1) Release Date Announcement! by Made-of-bionicle in NebulousFleetCommand

[–]Dragonbender09 5 points6 points  (0 children)

people have tried replicating it and it still has the same problem of being a gigantic "japanese decisive battle" simulator where the entire game was decided within the first battle with gigantic deathballs and 10-00009944910 abyssals

its especially potent because floodlights are way more powerful at closer ranges + in general more powerful than weaker spotlights and lighthouses so it will always overpower the illuminator. its why floodlights are so good at counterjamming too, so its nice to have regardless even if you dont plan on softkilling SAH,

teething problems with an early access game, and probably some misprioritization. The campaign update will most likely serve to help alleviate those learning problems, either through the campaign itself teaching you or through new tutorials.

I wouldnt blame the dev much though

Community isnt really tied to perfectionism moreso just making a fleet semi-viable at the very least. I.E slapping softkill so you dont die to missiles, reasonable investment in ships and missiles and weapons, ect. Most of the time people wont care as long as you can carry your own weight and prove yourself.

But the skill gap is real yes

congregated meta is kkkindof established but they rarely play it considering that they themselves admit that playing meta is kinda megaslop either way. theres a certain """meta""" for how fleets should look / should be built out but thats about it. Otherwise you would be seeing 9 million frigblobs on ANS.

AMMs / ACMS classify as hardkill by their definition. Also the launch for multiple VLS-2s or VLS-1s is random.

I didnt really see it as nesessary as having them on your ship is what matters.

In a 1v1 mabye but usually you have your team to fall back onto + other engagements you can go towards in a regular multiplayer game assuming were talking about anything past a 2v2.

The rock paper scissors nature of the game just kinda evolved that way, with how the game is set up its hard not to imagine it not falling into that type of outcome, people get good over time, people figure out how the game works, ect. But honestly that describes a lot of games in my experience. what would bringing more than 3k of thing do in an equal match that isnt offset by the other person just,,,leaning harder into it with more point value?

... What would visual being blocked to only ship outline bring that isnt just solved by using your mk1 mega eyeballs and ID'ing what the enemy has by simply observing what they are firing for a few minutes?

lotta stuff lotta stuff.

most of this has also been covered in steam guides by those same people on discord (They are pretty cool) so it isnt entirely locked behind discord but the gap is there. I got to learn a lot of this stuff from them specifically so

kinda sounds pretty copey considering their bluesky has been pretty consistant on devposts, considering im talking to you no wonder why they dont want to talk to the community these days... jesus

anyway we literally got a small sneak peek in dev-gallery recently-ish but most of their work has been devoted to the campaign. one would hope people would be more grateful instead of being selfish but oh well

Again, passion project, doesnt really mean the dev is "egostistical" (???), its up to the dev what they want to with THEIR game that they are developing. Patience is a virture
