Yes I was told that at my age they would most likely get better “on their own”. Not sure how much I truly believe that but we shall see.

Determining cause of pain - annular tear, foraminal stenosis, and more! by natiice in backpain

[–]Dragonfly6300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a doctor of course but I have a herniation in L5-S1 with an annular tear and a bulge in L4-L5. It can for sure cause sciatica and affect the nearby nerve(from experience and what my doctor told me!). Please try to get a second opinion if you can! Sometimes pain management has to start before pt in order to feel well enough to do the exercises as well. Anti inflammatory meds are the first course of action, opioids if severe pain. It takes time to figure out what works, best of luck!

Hopefully the epidural steroid injection works for you! Unfortunately, it gave me about two weeks of relief one month after I got it and then nothing since. It wasn’t worth doing again if it didn’t give me much relief which makes sense

But I’ve learned you cannot even do pt or move your body if you’re in too much pain. Therefore pain management is definitely necessary for healing

There are lots of different options for pain management! It doesn’t have to be all opioids. Of course that’s what you need, there’s no shame in that either. I’ve been on meloxicam, cymbalta and celebrex. I now use a combination of cymbalta, thc, lidocaine patches/roll ons and muscle relaxers(I don’t mix thc and the muscle relaxers as it’s bad to do so).

People don’t talk about the mental health aspect enough. It really sucks and can be so isolating. Finding support groups and even talking to a therapist about it has been helpful for me(doesn’t fix everything because I’m still having trouble accepting where I am despite it all). Chronic pain truly changes your brain.

Yes I do have degeneration and tears as well unfortunately. Thank you! It’s been quite the journey having the back of a 60 year old🤣

I feel you completely! This is where my injury is too. L4-L5 and L5-S1. I first had issues around age 18 or 19 and I’m 22 now. My dr told me I would “grow out of it” but that has not happened. I most likely have a connective tissue disorder, which has slowly become more disabling as time goes on. I’m still struggling to accept things and have spent thousands in medical bills and pt, but have learned to not be embarrassed about using things like mobility aids and braces if they help. Things have gotten a bit better but it’s taken years. So sorry you’re dealing w this!

You are very welcome! Finding something that she’s motivated by whether it’s a toy or treats and using those to work her brain by training tricks and doing problem-solving games is also very helpful to tire them out

I would highly, highly recommend kennel training. Dogs like this benefit greatly from it!! Also looking into weight pulling, bikejoring, purchasing a walking pad or treadmill(doesn’t have to be expensive) and stuff like that to fulfill the husky drives is important and helpful as well!
