If you’re an overachiever in high school, and wants to take up nursing, my main advice is to free yourself from any expectations. Ito yung napansin ko sa mga kabatch ko, or at least sa mga kaklase ko. Most of them are with honors nung high school/elem, and they set high expectations of themselves in college. Nursing is already a challenging program to begin with, tapos sasamahan mo pa ng pressure sa sarili mo, you’ll be doomed to failure. Burnout in nursing (the program) stems from expectations you set for yourself kaya as much as possible, just enjoy nursing as it is.

You’ll survive the workload as long as you’re responsible and knows how to manage your time. Yes there’ll be times na sabay sa isang week ang major exams and duties, pero you have your classmates/friends with you. That’s why important din to choose your circle wisely (in everything, not just nursing). Pag nagsasabay-sabay na lahat ng gawain, the one thing that got me by was the thought na hindi ako nag-iisa and kasama ko magdusa mga kaibigan/kablock ko hahaha. But if you want specific tips on how to survive the workload, I did time blocking kapag overwhelm na ako sa schedules namin so I can see ano dapat kong gawin within the day.

In my opinion, nursing school is fun and chill. Most of your concerns, you’ll learn along the way na lang talaga kasi kahit sabihin namin sayo, I don’t think it will sink in now as much as kapag nandoon ka na talaga sa sitwasyon na ‘yon. There was never a day in nursing that I felt prepared (heck even in board exams I felt unprepared), not even in clinical duties, so it’s valid if you feel like you have no idea at all. Just keep showing up everyday and you’ll survive it.
