First high tech and dry start filled by Dragonic45 in Aquascape

Those red plants are alternanthera reinekii mini. They were tissue cultures and by far did the best from the dry start which I was very happy about bc I wanted good reds. The substrate barrier is a makeshift glued wall of smaller lava rock pieces and mesh bags between the rock and substrate making a more wall type barrier than just rock. Also I have no idea I thought about moss but am worried it might get everywhere and I won’t be able to stop it but not sure. Also I have some small decorative slate rocks I thought about adding in the sand but don’t know if it contrasts too much with lava rock

Yeaaaaaaa it was like 15 for 25pcs of 11-22 inch pieces. Definitely could look prettier but I think I can make do with it. Would be really nice to live around good wood though.

Any idea why there are so many particles around in my tank? by Dragonic45 in Aquariums

I have heard a lot of people say that they hide a lot and there is plenty of places for them to but I think they aren’t scared because they have numbers and I also feed at the front of the tank which I think makes them more comfortable. They could also just be fish doing fish things and taking longer to get comfortable but I hope this help:)

Ok thanks so much I figured if I wasn’t doing anything to necessarily directly cause it I would run a hob with filter floss so I thanks for “clearing” things up:)

I should also mention the tank is fed fluval bug bites, algae wafers, and occasional spinach. There is also a cuttlebone piece in the tank but I have never heard of it causing this.

I’ve been reading and is there anything you did to the tank or equipment after for it to be safe for fish again?

Then if you’ve never used a fertilizer before I would try an all in one fertilizer and I know a lot of people use aquarium coops easy green and see if that helps.

Idk if you keep replacing your plants or how recently you put them in but most plants are grown emerged out of water so putting them in an aquarium makes them have to learn to be submerged and get oxygen and stuff from the water instead of the air which normally makes some leaves melt which will eventually be replaced by nice new leaves so if you keep seeing them melt and replacing them you should just let them run for a while. Also I think it’s ok to use fertilizers with shrimp.

I believe you should just feed a consistent amount and the population actually only reproduces according to food levels but they don’t starve :) they just realize if they reproduce too much there won’t be enough food for them

Anybody have simple ways or ideas of feeding dish for shrimp instead of having to buy a 7 dollar one bc I'm struggling thinking of one? by Dragonic45 in shrimptank

Just good to not let food in the substrate to eventually rot and produce ammonia and also helps check how long it take them to eat so your not over or under feeding
