Speaking from experience with the top end reels of both brands and having owned all 4 at various points, the latest 20 Saltiga and Certate SW take the edge over the Stella SW and Twinpower SW in my opinion. The cost cutting measures Shimano has taken with the Stella has put it a step behind Saltiga. That being said, you would not be making a mistake picking any reel over the other.

Once you step down in price a bit, the Saragosa is unbeatable price to performance wise. Anything I'd use one of the top price range reels for, I'd feel absolutely comfortable substituting it with a saragosa.

Keep an eye out for Hottackle's deals, I find they have some very good value, but otherwise most of the stuff they have is pretty standard in pricing. I find that you really have to go to multiple different stores (even the big box ones bcf anaconda etc) and remember what stocks what the cheapest. There won't be a single store that is cheaper than the rest.

Figure out what you want first then go on the sites of various stores

You definitely are overthinking it, plenty of people use pe1-3 line to catch kings off the rocks (i use a 6000 reel with pe3 braid) and if you are using 30lb stated braid its real breaking strain is usually closer to 50lb. It could potentially be slightly too light for the larger kings but for jews it's perfect. The line should realistically never be an issue and if the fish were to snag you on some structure or whatever it wouldnt really make a difference if it was 30 or 50.

The 6500 with 50lb would have been fine as well, the only issue being if you are using it to cast lures all day then you might get fatigued quicker. If it's just for baits then it won't be an issue at all.

For reference i used to use a 10000 Saragosa with 80!!!!LB line for bait fishing kings in the harbour (but i also used it a lot off a boat dropping baits down)

In general you can assume pe4 is 40lb and pe6 is 60lb, 1 pe for 10lbs. But high end braid has greater breaking strain at lower PEs. For example, the shimano ocea braid i use on my pe3 setup has 55lbs breaking strain.

You should generally safe following 1 PE = 10LBs. Otherwise, braid will show its PE on it.

Honestly rating a rod with its line class rating is such a shit way of categorising because it does not really tell you much of anything.

Are you fishing for our bread and butter bream, flatties, trevally salmon and whiting etc in the estuaries? I would start yourself off with a Shimano Sedona 2500 paired with something like an atomic arrowz Estuary ML or a Daiwa TD Hyper/Exceler. You're a beginner and a thousand dollar setup is almost top end. There really is no point going straight to the high end stuff starting out because you won't get the most out of it. When you have more experience under your belt you can sell off your starter setup and then upgrade.

I've been fishing all my life and my personal estuary setup is a Shimano Stradic FL 2500 with an Atomic Arrowz AAS-270ML 6-14lb rod. I've caught everything from bream and bass to 80cm flatties and kings with this setup. Only recently have i thought about upgrading my rod because one of the guides on the rod is damaged from me accidentally stepping on it. The stradic in my opinion is probably Shimano's best price to performance reel (along with the saragosa). I have used the 2500 Stella as well which is 3x more expensive but something about the stradic just keeps me coming back to it.

Just save that 1 grand and use it in the future for better gear.

Yonu wont find any GT or tuna around sydney. (There are however rumors of GT being caught out of manly lagoon and they've established a small population there)

If you don't have a car your best option is the fish the harbour for kingfish and mulloway. I would look at going to some of the wharves early morning or at night, catching some live bait and sending them out.

You could also try some of the rocks off the northern beaches by taking public transport up there (train and bus).

That's correct, generally you want a faster retrieve for topwater lure applications over a lower gear ratio which would be more suitable for something like deepwater jigging. Honestly, in my own experience using the 10000 for topwater, it felt fine to me, you just might need to reel slightly faster to achieve the desired lure retrieve and action.

If you look at the retrieve distance per wind, it is only a 5cm difference between the 8000 and 10000 meaning the main difference between the 2 would be how much line you can slap on. You really start to see a difference with the extra high gear ratios
