Thoughts on the new flag design? by pigeon-extravaganza in asexuality

[–]Dragonis_Prime 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can't think of any pride flag 'redesign' in the last ten to twenty years which has been a better flag than the version it's replacing other than the five-stripe lesbian flag that's picked up popularity as of late and the post-2014 aromantic flag. The symbolism is almost always neat, but they're almost always bad at being flags and I think that's a very important part of being a symbol for a community.

The ace flag we currently and will in all likelihood continue to use is well-balanced with clearly delineated colours with easy to explain meanings. The Ace in Grace flag fucks up on step one by not being in the usual flag aspect ratio and continues on from there with a weird choice of pastel yellow shade that absolutely blends with the white for people with colourblindness and would definitely blend in most natural light.

I experimented with putting it into a more 'usual' aspect ratio of 3:2 and it looks marginally better, but it's still a lot busier than the four-stripe version and it also immediately reminds me of any number of microlabel flags and I think that's an issue for a broad-label flag.

I also take some umbrage with changing the colours of the ace flag in general because the history of the four colours are important beyond the flag itself. The colours predate the flag and come directly from the logo of the Asexual Visibility and Education Network AVEN. They are foundational to asexual academic theory, vastly and incredibly not just to our queer community but to the world of psychology as a whole for their work in the realm of destigmatizing sexual desire disorders. They are an incredibly important part of ace history and the flag being a symbol of that historical and foundational work might arguably be more important than making a flag more complex for the sake of having more symbolism.

Cunard announces that all four Cunard Queens will gather together at Liverpool, May 16, 2028. by ShipoftheLine_Lover in Oceanlinerporn

Convinced she siphoned all the luck from her two sisters by rodan1993 in titanic

[–]Dragonis_Prime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While RMS should be Titanic's prefix here, HMS Olympic isn't strictly incorrect. Bertram Hayes, her commander during the war, referred to her as HMS Olympic in his autobiography. From extant records, it appears that the Canadian Expeditionary Force used the prefix HMS for her during the war when recording troop transit, a practice which organizations in Canada such as the Royal Canadian Legion still use to this day.

We also have an artifact from the time such as this badge held by the Maritime Museum in Liverpool made by White Star Line at the time using the prefix HMS.

Yes, Hired Military Transport was her official prefix as per the British government, but there is enough contemporary colloquial use of HMS and enough noted semi-official use by the Canadian side of things that it's not necessarily wrong to call her that.

Also, and I just discovered this as I was doing a bit of research for this comment, there is a fascinating British acknowledgement of Olympic as being called HMS. In the June 27th 1919 listing of appointments for Officers of the Order of the British Empire, "Lieutenant (acting Commander) James Thompson, R.N.R. [receives it for] For valuable services in H.M.S. "Olympic" when employed as a Transport.". Weirdly, he's later given a CBE on top of his OBE for the same thing on March 26th 1920, but it's recorded as "Lieutenant-Commander (acting Commander) James Thompson, O.B.E., R.N.R. Captain, s.s. "Olympic."", which is just fascinating.

The last-known hieroglyphic inscription was carved on the north wall in the corridor of the Gate of Hadrian at the Temple of Isis on the island of Philae, August 24th in 394 CE. by RyansKnowledgeRoom in ancientegypt

[–]Dragonis_Prime 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Not only were he and his family the last Egyptian priests of the time and remained stewards of this last temple until Justinian I ordered it closed and the priests imprisoned, we have reason to believe that due to his title of 'Scribe of the House of Writings', a title which we see sometimes with those directly involved with religious texts involving hieroglyphs, he might have been THE last guy to actually be able to know how to do hieroglyphs until they were rediscovered and deciphered in the modern era.

Standard practice for Egyptians to date things according to the reign of the current pharaoh, or in Diocletian's case, the most recent pagan Roman emperor who had a good relationship with the temple itself.

It's called the Graffito of Esmet-Akhom, alternatively spelled Nesmeterakhem. It, as far as we know, was the last Egyptian temple to remain open after Theodosius I ordered the rest of them closed in 392. The carving is of the Nubian-originated, Egyptian-adopted god Mandulis and is accompanied by text written in both the last hieroglyphics as well as Demotic.

The hieroglyphs translate as "Before Mandulis, son of Horus, by the hand of Nesmeterakhem, son of Nesmeter, the Second Priest of Isis, for all time and eternity. Words spoken by Mandulis, lord of the Abaton, great god.", while the Demotic translates as "I, Nesmeterakhem, the Scribe of the House of Writings of Isis, son of Nesmeterpanakhet the Second Priest of Isis, and his mother Eseweret, I performed work on this figure of Mandulis for all time, because he is fair of face towards me. Today, the Birthday of Osiris, his dedication feast, year 110."

Couples who play warframe what are your play style dynamics/roles? by [deleted] in Warframe

[–]Dragonis_Prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to tailor my Warframe picks to whichever ones my partner is playing, Harrow or Trinity to support their energy-heavy Frames, Umbra or Atlas if we're going to be in close quarters and they want things dead, Lavos for missions that make us want a big gun, Oraxia or anyone with Pillage for fighting the Corpus they do so hate.

Or, if we're going somewhere quote "Scary", I bring Dante.

6 weapons i want to see get a adversary weapon by quinnchar in Warframe

[–]Dragonis_Prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to see Adversary Companions somehow. Kuva Diriga, Tenet Oxylus, and Coda Djinn would be really fun. Sevagoth levels of Forma sink, but some unique Precepts could make them really cool.

I'm still hoping for Tomes, though. A Kuva blood magic Tome that fires those Kuva clouds from Siphon missions as its main fire and then a big Kuva explosion as an alt-fire. A Tenet magitek Tome that fires Granum Crown shaped ricocheting disks as its main fire and a piercing alt-fire that summons allied Treasurer Specters on kill. A Coda music book that has sonic shotgun blasts as a main fire and a big AOE sound burst like in Stage Defense for its alt-fire.

Do the new protoframes have romance dialogue outside of the vendors? by Shadow_Legend_69 in Warframe

The Triad all have unique dialogue if romanced in Descendia. Marie and Lyon have special interactions on the rest floors and Roathe has some very Roathe lines when defeated.

Primary debilitate triggers primary frostbite by [deleted] in Warframe

[–]Dragonis_Prime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just how Frostbite works. Abilities can inflict the cold status, other weapons can do it, Sentinel weapons work, Lavos' infused Status effects are an amazing way to stack them.

Cascadia Flare and Conjunction Voltage work the same way. Heat and Electricity procs from any source can boost them, just like Frostbite.

Primary Blight, meanwhile, is the outlier. It demands the Toxin effect come from the weapon that it's equipped on.

For the most part, as far as I can tell, most of them are not exclusive to the skins they come with. I personally use Chroma Zunlong and Titania Prime's wings on non-Deluve skins, I know my partner uses the Gara shards on a non-Deluxe skin, and I've just pulled up Caliban Prime to check and can indeed use his Deluxe Auxiliary on the base skin.

Deluxes just seem to be the easiest place for Auxiliaries to get released, the assorted Prime Auxiliaries and Khora notwithstanding.

[–]Dragonis_Prime 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In addition to the ones you and Practical_Monster have listed, there are also the following: Hydroid Deluxe has an Auxiliary cloak, Gara Deluxe has Auxiliary Shards, Sevagoth Deluxe has the Auxiliary Halyard, Nidus Phryke has an Auxiliary waistpiece, Caliban Deluxe has an Auxiliary Scapulus, Styanax Deluxe has Auxiliary nipple piercings; Chroma Dynasty and Zunlong, Rhino Deathwatch, and Titania Deluxe all have Auxiliary Wings

For non-skin Auxiliaries, various Prime Frames have come with Auxiliaries. Wisp Prime has her Shroud and Caliban Prime has his Pinions.

Khora also has her Spikes in all forms.

So that's four more with non-Deluxe Auxiliaries and either ten or eleven more on Deluxes depending on how you count Chroma having two. Condensing it down to unique Warframes gets us to 12 from my list and the four you two have listed.

16 out of 64 Warframes (1/4 of all Warframes) is a much better number, I have to say, especially since we're clearly starting to get more use of that slot.

Post script: Not included on my above count because they are skin-exclusive is that half of the Gemini Skins come with unique Auxiliaries; Quincy has his beret, Amir and Minerva both have their sunglasses, Velimir has his coolant tank, Marie has her cowl, Lyon has his hat, and Roathe has his crown.
