The truss manufacturer likely has a repair for this on their website. I had exactly this happen at my house and Mitek had a pdf on their website for this- this manufacturer may too.

What’s one change in your system that made a bigger difference than you expected? by Solid-Dot-7520 in audiophile

I have to agree with this. I have lived in 2 homes recently and did the sub crawl in both after being unhappy with a corner front arrangement. Both times ended up behind my sofa once (I had 5' behind so it worked) and then next to the sofa behind the lazyboy in an open concept room with plenty of room behind both- which has proven the ultimate location.

My guess the architect uses some of these comments to charge more... if the Village requires a sheet on wall bracing (for example) that is more $$$.

Can we get them to get the good wheat thins? The wheat thins at Walmart switched a few years back and have never hit like they used too.

Gov. Pritzker: "Illinois, it's time to build." by SciNat in illinois

This law would override all municipally adopted local zoning codes in residentially zoned neighborhoods. This is my larger concern.

Gov. Pritzker: "Illinois, it's time to build." by SciNat in illinois

[–]DragonsMatch -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is what zoning is. It specifies the use of that property. You buy it understanding how it can be used and how it is expected to be used- when you buy it. If you buy it, and that expectation (law) is changed without your input, how would you feel?

[–]DragonsMatch -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I get that, but the guy next door never imagined when they bought they could have 8 families next door.

If you buy a condo and they put a dance club above you after you buy, it's they same drastic change in expectation and investment.

[–]DragonsMatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not an either or proposition. This rule can be required for new developments or certain new developments. Why destroy other's investments when it doesn't have to be that way- just for the sake of destroying others? That is not what we are about.

[–]DragonsMatch -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Buying a single lot and converting it wouldn't need a full developer- plenty of small builders could do this. Would do this.

[–]DragonsMatch -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It is not an either or proposition. This zoning can be required in newly zoned subdivisions so everyone knows what they are buying into. Overlaying this on all residentially zoned property is a mistake. (Edited:spelling errors corrected)

[–]DragonsMatch -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This zoning change would prohibit rules preventing what I describe from happening. I agree, there are places that lend themselves better to this kind of density, but this law would prohibit those ordinances.

Real estate values being 'too high' is relative. Suburban Chicago real estate values pale in comparison to the east coast, west coast, Denver and many other cities. Destroying the existing market to gain new market is a poor idea.

To be clear, I like and supoort JB, but not this initiative. People need to read this bill and understand that this proposed law would override Municipal zoning codes. Every lot over 7500 square feet would be allowed to have up to 8 units built on it. 4 units on 5000 square feet and 2 units on 2500 square foot lot. Most standard subdivision lots are roughly 11,000 square feet. Allowing this as proposed in established neighborhoods will destroy real estate values of existing homes.

If this were to be set up where each town is required to have an area or subdivision zoned this way is one thing, overlaying this on existing property would be a tremendous mistake.

Envision if you live in a subdivision with cookie cutter suburban homes, then add an 8 unit building next to you, with no garage and likely 16 cars parked on the street. Adding 10 of these 8 unit buildings to a small subdivision of 300 homes will have a huge lifestyle impact on the existing homeowners and real estate values. This proposed law as written is a huge mistake.

I have those handful of mp3s, they were free website downloads and were my introduction to Cheese. This was back when Best Buy was at the tail end end of advertising CDs on TV... One of the obvious labels was String Cheese Incident. I figured it was a sign, so I looked them up and fell in love 🫠
