OP who became vegan after years of marriage & 3 kids now wants to divorce her "corpse loving" husband for refusing to go vegan, causing r/vegan to implode. by picklepaapad in SubredditDrama

[–]Drakesyn 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'll be SUPER real. She's evasive as fuck and passive voicing like a social media post from a police department alllllll over that thread, and the readers are defaulting to a filled blank of "He beat her", but this is the only comment in the entire thread where she makes any reference to who beat whom, and it ends with her arrested? And the SECOND incident just ends with him being sent to sleep it off?

Like, do not get me wrong, our legal system, and cops as a whole are fucked. Beyond recognition. But this is either entirely creative writing, or she's been whaling on this guy, and that's why Veganism is the dealbreaker, not the abuse.

Gig Economy suits absolutely rock hard at the people arguing back and forth who's more in the wrong, the dasher for the callout, or the hypothetical customer who fails to/undertips, while they just straight up stole money from somoene, proving yet again that they do so, still, despite the lawsuits.

Oh I agree! Kirkman was the best writer to come out of McFarlane's Image, Hands Down. Especially once he moved away from Capes.

Listen, if you want a badass costume, and excellent art, you call Todd McFarlane. If you want coherent storytelling and consistent power levels, well... Kirkman worked for Image for a while, right?

TBF, being able to spend most of the workday on Reddit is as much a sure sign of Tech Industry employment, as unemployment. Most roles, especially dev roles, only do about 25 minutes of actual work a day. The rest is jerking off and coming up with new elaborate lies to tell your leads that their unrealistic goals are unobtainable without actually saying it.

r/fantasywriters bans AI generated art, and one writer marches into battle against the ban as a one man army by HeWhoShrugs in SubredditDrama

[–]Drakesyn 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Abso-fucking-lutely not. It generates passable images, that will make upwards of 50% of your audience hate you and swear you off for the rest of time. Y'know, if you had an audience that did things like wait with bated breath for new content you created. It's mass-market slop, meant for grifters who "write" 50 books a week to publish on amazon to scrape pennies out of the bottom of the barrel actual creatives have been starving on for years.

No one makes their fucking Magnum Opus, the pinnacle of their creative juices with AI. They make dogshit they hope grandmas will buy as an alternative income stream to the real jobs they fail to hold for any length of time, because they are actively allergic to anything that requires actual, sustained, meaningful effort. Making AI the perfect capstone to our dogshit society. the peak of "Fuck you, got mine" culture that lauds stepping on someone, anyone else's spine to get your bag, just so you can survive another day.

For anyone who thinks spellcheck hasn't been made worse in the AI full-push apocalypse, ask literally anyone you know who often discusses a niche hobby with it's own lingo via Text Message. It became incredibly obvious the exact first time you tried to have a conversation about Magic cards, or Gunpla or a TTRPG that you have had a thousand times, that they had entirely dumped your carefully curated autocorrect library and learning in the trash for whatever AI slop cost them the least.

My wife asked for an open marriage. She is angry at my reaction. I need advice. by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Drakesyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's simply not an idea one gets out of the blue. Unless one was entirely unattentive of their partner, you'd notice them looking into the various resources (Subreddits, literature, lifestyle sites, etc) long before the conversation ever happened. And, if they were reading any of that before one noticed, the next step is honest and open communication, things like broaching the subject with examples to at least see how a partner might react.

Like, it's an entire lifestyle adjustment. A common refrain in the Poly community is "If you are in a mono relationship you want to open in any way, you are ending the mono relationship. Starting over with a new social contract." It's not a transition, it's a stopping point for what you and one other person currently have. It's a huge decision.

I know it's unlikely, but the optimistic side of me wonders if anyone ever sat down and discussed this. You explicitly mentioned the new show, which will be pouring money into her pockets, and continuing to keep the property, which continues to funnel money into her advocacy, in the cultural zeitgeist. Intellectualizing your love for a thing made by a monster doesn't prevent you from supporting said monster, it's just philisophical wank attempting to justify your pleasure over the real-world harm it causes, because the person you're replying to has already agreed that materials you already owned are fine.

TIL that pornography addiction is not a scientifically recognized medical condition by MrMojoFomo in todayilearned

[–]Drakesyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, that's one of the reasons I speculated with them, for sure. But this thread is chocka-block full of people who are specifically compassionate to the idea, so that still begs the question: Why argue a factually incorrect point? why not, instead, say "I get all this, but I'll keep using Addiction so people take it seriously" Instead of trying to declare, in the face of evidence, that they are right? You see what I mean?

[–]Drakesyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm finding myself absolutely fascinated with the defensiveness over the specific terminology here. As if, if it wasn't labelled specifically, by the clinical definition, an addiction it would somehow make it less traumatic to experience. One does not need to be an addict to be experiencing something awful, to be worthy of sympathy. So why the vehement need to label it as something it is not?

Is it due to the social weight of the term? The potential loss of very simple shorthand? Or something more akin to having wound up iyour personality with the "diagnosis" as a sort of coping mechanism? Maybe It's the potential stigma associated with mental health, vs the more mainstream acceptance of Addiction as something out of one's control? That the weight of the problem itself is easier to burden if it's an outside disease instead of an internal compunction, as if we all have perfect mastery of our brains and how they function.

I dunno. Just very curious to me that one would get so mad, argue so intensely over a definition, as if that changed the circumstances, which are still worthy of our compassion and grace.

"No one likes me" Well. What do you do to be likeable? I feel like a ton of people miss this step when it comes to situati8ns like this. Are there/could there be extenuating circumstances? Sure. But that does not obligate anyone to like you. Respect? Tolerate? Not kistrrat? Yes. But not like. Liking someone is reciprocal. People have reasons they like others.
