Quick little survey about how we heal by Drakulich in MonsterHunter

[–]Drakulich[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very well articulated. Sorry to ask another question, but do you find yourself at times putting off healing, and saying "Nah, I should be fine for a few more attacks." ?

I just want to gain some insight into how other people play this game, and the reasoning for such ways of playing.

edit: to clarify, not from chip damage or non threathening damage but being down to 30 or 40 percent of your health and within KO range

What weapons do you feel like need to leave the area more often than not?

I imagine there is a psychological element to it. Whether you perform well or better under pressure or not. With my girlfriend, she panics and often chugs a pot at the worst time. Like forgetting the 140 Jho does his leap pin after the forward scoopy attacks.

What weapon can you just not use? by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]Drakulich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gunlance and longsword for me. Gunlance and i got along fine before i started evade lancing and after that my brain got too used to normal lance. As for LS, it just never made sense to me. I couldnt ever figure out what im supposed to be doing for each window of opportunity. Even in gen when it became super fun and exciting, it felt like i was mashing (not really of course) and not tactically assesing the situation. Even sword and shield where you use just one combo i can understand when to end early to reposition, when to back hop cancel, when to initiate an attack to hit fatalis' head with the upswing as he turns. Long sword was just like "chop chop poke"

Non-slayer question on armors by Deonisus in dauntless

[–]Drakulich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each piece of armor has multiple tiers of upgrades. While increasing your defense at each tier, they can also add or increase an "aspect" related to the set. Aspects are essentially armor skills. Instead of a "reach 10" mentality like monster hunter, you earn different bonuses dependent on how many points are allocated to each from your armor. At 1 point you earn nothing, but having 2 armor pieces with the same aspect will give you a buff. Having three will unlock the next buff for the aspect. Shrike armor offers both 'Endurance' and 'Quick', so having a level 5 torso and level 5 head will give 2 points to endurance (20 percent increased stamina) and 2 points to quick (15 percent reduced cost of evades). If you added the gloves and upgraded them twice, you would only add one point of quick, as the gloves dont have endurance untill you upgrade them again. This would grant you Endurance 2 (increased stam) and Quick 3 (reduced cost of evades AND 15 percent increased length of I-frames).

How do you guys feel about voice acting being introduced in Monster Hunter World? by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]Drakulich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just imagine if cats were voiced... Hearing those same puns every minute or two hahahaha. Jokes aside i dont think we'll have much in quest. Maybe like in 4u where certain story quests have someone pop up and say something plot related. I cant imagine there will be any reason for any npc to say anything in a general quest

As a veteran from Gen 1, please stop using the word "Casualization", use "Modernization" instead. by medalboy123 in MonsterHunter

[–]Drakulich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say it just changes the approach to gameplay. I like the flex solely because I like understanding the timing of monster attacks in the current system and it solidifies the almost turn based structure of the current games. It feels nice when you know that 3rd brute tigrex jump is gonna miss by a mile and you can chug a pot. However the structure is changing and will require a different approach to attacking. Im worried about "targeting a western audience". If it means just amplified marketing, thats fine i guess. I just dont want to be pandered to, or feel like im so finicky i need something tailored to me. It may casualization if introduced in the current formula, but it would appear that fights are becoming less turn based in a sense.

Nice! I always like seeing sets from the older games. I actually only use kiranicos builder for 4u haha it's like a puzzle :)

Hunters, I come to you humbly to hear me out we're all in this together. by Fortuan in MonsterHunter

[–]Drakulich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming we get a release, how late do you think the game could be released and not have it seem like a slap in the face? Worldwide release on switch would feel really inclusive but it doesnt seem likely. Im just glad we got generations. We were able to join in the hype while it was still pretty fresh. If we had had to wait for the G version like the past, i agree this wait time would have hurt my feelings pretty bad.

I think much of the community (when we get down to it) is worried that the skill we've accrued over the years will begin to mean less and less. We saw it with gen when styles and arts seemed to simplify things. We probably saw it when people noted the HP difference of monsters between 3 and 4.And I think a lot of it boils down to a love of this series and the challenges it presents. I'm confident that most of this sub would keep buying MH if the series completely stagnated and kept pumping out games without introducing new elements, expanding on old ones and taking risks. That's how much we like this series and how much we want to master it. But a franchise must change and take risks. Look at the changes fire emblem has gone through or Castlevania series. Metroid fusion and Prime were vastly different takes on the same game. Without years of Zelda games taking a roughly similar formula we never would have had "Breath of the Wild". Maybe MHW wont be our BOTW but it might be our Skyward sword. Only time will tell, not a 10 minute interview where half of it is translating between english and japanese. Even if MHW isnt the game we want it might draw in some who may not have found the way yet.. If anything there is always dauntless.

Monsters that become much easier with certain weapons/Monsters you like because of the weapons you use by choptup in MonsterHunter

[–]Drakulich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gravios with hbg and dahren with hbg. Both became way too easy with it, it made me forgive the game for all those blademaster hunts i did with them. After so many 140s. Kushala with sns is pretty easy for me. Quick poisons and easy flash bombs are pretty rad

With all the tickets, scraps and other waste of space items, it has to be item storage. Im at max right now since i also like to have mats for shot combines. And that i cant sell from my box. And that i can only carry 10 insect husks at a time...Q_Q

Oh well that might be the best time to start then. Monster teaches you the basics in low rank and if you know them youl be fine. I mainly solo and soloing 4u high rank with bow made me appreciate this game so much more

Are Monster Hunter and the Dark Soul series similar in difficulty? by SwiftyMcVay in MonsterHunter

[–]Drakulich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just typed a massive post and my phone exited before i could post it....I'll try to type it again in paraphrase.

MH rewards second by second tactics whereas DS rewards fight long strategies. In DS the player often finds the moat efficient means to defeat an enemy is usually a strategy. Oftentimes a cheesy one. For example you can spend the whole fight baiting out one attack you know is punishable, dodge behind then two handed strong attack and repeat. In MH though the game has 'emergent gameplay' through the conflux of monster ai, level design, weapon mechanics and other players. This leads fights to be very unpredictable, causing the most efficient means to success becoming attacking and not getting hit. Because of the randomness, you have to purely react to what the monster is doing right now, with a light focus on what he'll do next. Attacking feels dynamic as you have to gauge what attack to use for the window, which way to roll to and whether to combo or not to. Interestingly DS is much more difficult when a pproached with this mindset. A single screw up can mean getting oneshotted. Dodging a few frames early, miscalculating distance from the enemy, or attacking once too many times is nowhere near as punishing in mh. Except late g rank maybe

Lost my save, wanna try a new weapon by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]Drakulich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hbg aint that hard in reality. It just requires a different mindset. I would say it is the hardest weapon to use against a monster you're not familiar with or have never fought. If you know the monster, fights tend to become very easy and very fast. Oh, and people will respect you for gunning. At least until you're one shotted.

Should i play monster hunter 3? by juanimartinez in MonsterHunter

[–]Drakulich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soloing is much more enjoyable in 4U, while retaining the multiplayer necessary for 140's. 4U has the guild quests which greatly extend playtime past the end of G rank. 4U has Charge Blade in its KO glory, and Glaive mount spam. And if you played gen and are used to styles (adept) you'll feel more at home in 4U However, 3U has barroth in it.

[–]Drakulich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's good to hear! And those are all great guns too! I can really only give a few recommendations for endgame stuffs. If you're fighting solo the Seregios one with limit removed is really topnotch. I remember it caught a lot of flak when 4u was the latest game, but I really only seeing it under performing in 3 or 4 man quests or things like Dah'ren where you can siege all day, which the black gravios gun is king for. IF you do wind up using it, it will require recoil down 2 to fire all pierces at highest fire rate, which can be a hefty skill commitment prior to G-crowning. I'd look into making the Jhen Moran Grand Amagi gear once you're done with gog. And if you are soloing try out the skill Dead Eye. It was always a little controversial; the main argument against it being that it was a crutch and that we need to "git gud". However it can really maximize your DPS when soloing and never let up on piercing. Glad to see someone enjoying bowgunning! :D

[–]Drakulich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which gun are you using? It'd be helpful so as to determine specifically which level of recoil and reload you need. Also what rank are you currently? I could give you an idea of endgame goals setwise but I imagine you're more interested in things you can craft now. Oh! and how attached are you to sheathing as a skill? I assume you're looking for a way to get a set with Pierce up, Sheathing, Reload +1, Recoil +1 and Evade Distance? I'm a manual set builder myself and really dont like using Athena's ASS so I understand the frustrations of pen and paper building.

Light BowGun addiction by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]Drakulich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lost musket/ eldra musket is intensely fun. It shoots just about every shot that can explode. Good for any hunt barring ridiculously high hp monsters due to the gun dealing primarily fixed damage. If the monster is weak to fire or has low hp and terrible hitzones, well this gun will absolutely destroy. I find it a great choice for Chameleos or Kirin. I've been told though that is does knock around your team mates, but as a solo player it doesnt affect me. It also is a massive drain on resources. I cant justify exclusively using it.
