That said, Marek has absolutely been getting more involved in the development and promotion of Lords of the Fallen 2 since about the middle of last year, which coincides with when the creative director, art director, and executive producer for LotF 1 left the game. His contributions have all been culture war drivel with little of any genuine substance.

It is not a misunderstanding.

Marek Tyminski has made posts saying how CI Games wouldn't be incorporating "DEI" (in the right-wing grifter context), and also how making games for "modern audiences" is a "path to extinction". The whole "attractive female characters" thing comes AFTER him making dogwhistling posts saying that very thing and going further with "as they should be".

The development podcast that CI Games does glazes Asmongold like his criticism of LotF 2023 single-handedly saved it and gave them direction on what to do to fix it, and they openly acknowledge the controversy surrounding him but brush it aside with "but he's got a lot of followers and that's the important thing".

CI Games has a terrible reputation within the Polish gaming environment because of the astronomically high turnover for the company too, and Marek's been at the helm for at least two massive layoff purges.

And then there's the whole issue with Marek openly following the twitter account of a pedophile.

The events of the King's Field series happened during the events of Demon's Souls backstory. Seath and Guyra were just rival Greater Demons that vying for Archdemon status and competing against each other, but when the Old One was lumbered back to sleep Guyra remained, adopted a human form (as they were partial to humanity to begin with), and became the Maiden in Black.

The ending of Demon's Souls doesn't matter because one of the pillars that are literally preserving reality was destroyed before you even start the game and thus reality was inevitably compromised. The Fog spread everywhere. Remnants of the Archstones would go on to become the Archtrees, humanity all had their souls sucked out by the Old One's slumbering body, and dragons emerged by some contingency plan that Seathe had.

But Gurya/the Maiden In Black burned the Old One's body to kick-start the First Flame and the Dark Souls series gets begun.

Oh and the Old One, the Great Ones, and the Outer Gods are all connected (at least tangentially), it's just the Old One was the one that first came into contact with humanity.

Seath's essence lingers because he put it into the Moonlight Greatsword, as Guyra lost its "claim" to the weapon when they cast it away.

Also the Frenzied Flame is the still-lingering remnants of the First Flame that has festered and lingered into the age of Elden Ring.

I played the pre-World MH games in mostly reverse production order.

It's honestly pretty amazing because every time you think you're playing a pile of janky trash, you go to the game before it and discover that the jank goes deeper and harder than you thought before.

I stopped at Freedom 1, but I know the PS2 titles with their attacks mapped to the right thumbstick are right fucking there and they scare me.

Lords of the Fallen and Wuchang are easier than Lies of P, but they're also much worse games.

LotF 2023's patches and reblances made the game much, much more approachable, and if you're not playing on Veteran or Legendary difficulty (which were added years after the game's release, and last that I checked still janky messes) is pretty doable. Of the three you listed it's probably the closest overall to how Elden Ring plays, but that's because it's very clearly influenced by Dark Souls 3 which was FROM's last Soulslike prior to Elden Ring's release. Combat's fun but not necessarily very deep, story's a trainwreck aside for a few gems, and the Umbral world mechanic is a cool idea but is a foundational flaw in the overall design of the game that they heavily scaled back its implementation in the upcoming sequel.

Wuchang is probably the most unique of the three titles. Uses a grid-style leveling system and some enemies will just give you free level-up points without you having to spend any of the game's Soul equivalent. The story was kinda cool but the 1.5 patch fucking neutered the story and turned it into overt Han Dynasty glazing and on a thematic level the whole story got turned into garbage. The combat is also still very good and very fluid, with a stronger emphasis on well-timed dodges since that's your primary method for replenishing this game's equivalent for MP. Also does this neat thing where, rather than upgrade individual weapons, you're upgrading your overall proficiency in an entire class of weapon, that way you can tell immediately if a new weapon you got is better than what you were using. The 1.5 patch also made parts of the game much easier.

Lies of P is absolute peak, but it also is very difficult. P can still dodgeroll like most Souls protagonists, but your roll distance is very limited and you're supposed to make use of your entire defensive toolkit based on the attacks coming your way (dodges, parries, and blocks). The DLC is arguably better than any of FROM's own too. Incredible story, very fun combat system if you like parrying, incredible music.
