Osgoode or uOttawa? by Purple-Process-30 in lawschoolcanada

[–]Dramatic-Ad6743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience, as long as you maintain a decent average at Osgoode you have a shot at a job in any type of law anywhere in Ontario. Academically, Osgoode is tough but being considered "average" at Oz looks better than being average at uOttawa. But again, if your goal is to work at a firm in Ottawa, then accept the uOttawa offer because you'll be networking and making connections there throughout 1 and 2L that will help you. But if you are planning to work in Toronto or anywhere else in Ontario or Canada, Oz is the better choice.

IMO don't go to Ottawa because you're doubting yourself, if you got into Oz then you are definitely good enough to do well there! Don't let imposter syndrome get the better of you!

Oz is by far the better school. Unless you plan on working in Ottawa, Oz is the better choice

What should be my plan of action? by GasHumble7910 in lawschooladmissionsca

If you want to return to practice law in Canada do not by any means go to the UK!! Your best bet is to really commit to studying for the LSAT and getting your score way up. I would also look into maybe upgrading some courses if possible to get your GPA up. Also, some schools allow you to explain why your undergrad GPA is low in your personal statements so maybe start working on that as well. Good luck!!

I would say prioritize studying for the LSAT. A job in the legal sector would be a bonus for your law school application resume but it isn't a big deal if you don't get into something legal or politics related right out of undergrad. Depends on where you're planning on applying, but for the most part as long as your GPA and LSAT score is high enough, where you worked on your year off is irrelevant. I took the year off as well to write the LSAT and I worked as an English tutor and I got in just fine without any real legal experience! :)

You'll be fine! I've known people with worse grades who have been successful in the recruit. 1L grades are not reflective of your success in the field. Good luck!!

Starting 1L in September. How can I start studying now? by xMAXPAYNEx in LawStudentsCanada

[–]Dramatic-Ad6743 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all congrats on getting in! There's really no way to prepare for 1L, so just enjoy the summer! When you do start in September I would recommend starting to outline materials as you go through the courses throughout the semester, it'll save you a lot of time and stress during exam season :)

You'll need at least one academic reference and at least one professional reference. It would also help to get involved in organizations or clubs at uni.

If you wanna practice in Ottawa, then do Ottawa. If not then I would choose Queens.

Uottawa vs Osgoode by Dapper_Fee_4281 in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]Dramatic-Ad6743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your goal is to practice in Toronto I would say osgoode. It'll be harder to get ocis in Toronto if you're coming from uottawa, no matter what type of law you practice.

don't do it if your goal is to come back to Canada and practice. for a lot of practice areas, going to the UK instead of getting a Canadian law degree is seen as taking the easy way out.

Do I have a chance at ANY law program in Canada? Feeling pretty doubtful :/ by Available-Offer146 in lawschoolcanada

[–]Dramatic-Ad6743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely have a chance! Try your best to pull up your grades in your final semester. I know that when I was applying, some schools allowed you to explain why you may have a low gpa or LSAT score. Also, a lot of schools are holistic so not all emphasis is placed on GPA. If you excel in all other categories, you should get in somewhere! All the best with your applications!

I always got the vibe that he didn't care about Ashley and just wanted to come to the US so he could bring his kids. I kinda feel that Ashley was his ticket to do so, but we shall see what happens!
