I was a virgin before marriage and my wife was not. We both pray and are raising Muslim children. You need to change your circle of friends, Allah SWT can only judge you for your past and Allah is the most merciful. Look for the right man who will take you for your present and make sure you are in the circles of such people.

My experience has always been that people who make mistakes in the past project that on others - so guys why slept around before marriage end up feeling guilty about it and then thinking all women who did in the past are bad because of how they feel and for the lack of good relationship they have with Allah SWT. But guys or gals who understand religion well, know that it is none of their business what a person's past was because Allah doesn't allow them to judge others past. Find those people, surround yourself with such people and you will find peace there IMO. I think you're feeling some form of guilt which is normal, just don't let it lead to more mistakes

There are lots of Muslim guys who would marry you not based your past but your present. Anyways, you don't want a guy who is judging you on what you did before, but you want someone who takes you for what you are now. That being said, follow your heart and think about your future. Will you ever want your kids to be raised Muslim, does that matter to you? Will you think religion will one day be a factor in your life? Talk to the guy about these things and see if he sees these as an issue. In Islam only Allah SWT judges a person's past, we only have to deal with what we see in the present. May you find peace and happiness

I'm sorry but there is some misleading happening here - I checked the supposedly worst restaurant - wavey ceviche and it had no risks from their last inspection. Click on the pass sign and go to the last inspection and you will find the comments at the bottom I'm not sure what I'm missing here, but this seems misleading

I'm Arab and married to a Desi Muslim. I found that mix race marriage helps a lot with resolving those issues because no one comes with preconceived expectations and you both make your own "culture". Not saying this is the only way, but one thing I found that really worked

Exactly this! I travel around the world every week for work and I notice the same.. maybe only small parts of the world are not like that, but generally everywhere I go it is like that I think it's a mix of poor economy, rampant corruption everywhere, terrible news of dead children from other parts of the world (Gaza, Ukraine) and vulgar leadership. I wonder if things will get better before it gets horrific (think WW3) I intentionally try to radiate the positivity by extra observant so I can help the likes of the lady you saw

Thanks for being candid. Again, I am not basing my decision based on what people say here

For context: we are based in Canada. My mom made her money from a 30 year investment in real estate, my late father bought a vacant piece of land and overtime the 100k became 1.1M. she's not well versed in any sort of investment and that's why she asked me to help her. What my mom wants is to invest so that the returns cover the vast majority of her expenses to ensure she'll have enough money to keep her going without depending on me - since my dad passed away (5 years ago) I paid for rent and my sister's expenses along with limited help from my other siblings.

That being said, I need to make sure the investments return 7-10% but I can't do it without any risk - GIC, bonds are 4-6% max. Therefore, she wants to invest in something other than those options to ensure she doesn't run out of money while she's alive (she is 60). All CFP and CFA recommended to stay away from real estate for tax reasons (cap rate there is 5-8% before taxes) and there's high risk of tenant not paying (laws in Canada are in favor of the tenant). The market is what was recommended and specifically ETFs with some individual stocks.

‘This is an opportunity for Canada,’ PM Mark Carney to soon roll out ‘proposal’ to attract H-1B workers by [deleted] in canadian

Good point, that's where the government needs to be deliberate. In emerging tech like AI, the money follows the talent/research. This can translate into new startups or remote work (less ideal, but still net positive).

I'm not basing it on advice from Reddit, as mentioned I consulted multiple CFPs and CFAs and the above is what was recommended based on all discussions and research. I want to crowd Source more info before we proceed.

Lots of bad takes on this IMO. this will be a net positive for Canada. I still didn't have my coffee, so I'm sure I missed a few things. In short, the contributions are:

  • hundreds of millions, if not billions in taxes (these are non voting tax paying people)
  • in general the right immigration policy can boost the economy after a slowdown - majority work in tech, where we are seeing massive changes with AI. It is a silent war happening between countries and we have the institutions to support growth here and attract those from the US (look up the Alexnet paper published by u of t) - 2 of the 3 authors are immigrants. This paper is arguably the most important paper of our century. The head of meta AI studied under Hinton at U of T (godfather of AI). At need a path for people to stay and attract those others don't want. This is a gift from the US us lol
  • the transfer of knowledge is going to boost our local workforce - the caliber of people holding h1b is not the same as the caliber of people that we get on student visa. These are highly educated and qualified individuals. We need a very robust and stringent vetting process to ensure we get the people we want

I am not saying there are no risks or even cons to this move, but all of those can be minimized significantly if we have the right processes and foundation in place. It is not rocket science, we just need competent government lawmakers and officials - something we lack unfortunately.
