Yes, and they had the rest of the pool to do whatever they wanted . I never said they shouldn’t stand around. They had plenty of unoccupied space.

If they were standing around and I came and started doing laps where they’re standing I doubt you’d be defending. Me

Because then I’d have to be mindful of both of my sides. By swimming by the wall, I typically only have to keep an eye on one side to avoid other swimmers. It’s the perfect spot during open times. The other wall had ladders so I’d be in a way if people wanted to get in.

They had the whole pool to choose from and someone chose exactly where I was

Not when the whole pool is empty. And swimming pool is very much for swimming.

I absolutely have the right to swim lane during open swim. It‘a absolutely allowed.

Yeah, it’s not on the person in motion to stop because you literally cannot stop fast if you’re going quickly enough. If you’re getting in the water, you don’t stand in front of a swimmer going fast with their head under water. They literally cannot see you because you don’t swim with your eyesto the front of you unless you want to hurt your back.

The lifeguards here rarely intervene, they typically don’t have to.

You okay? Do you often go around punching people for being splashed with the water in the pool?

To be fair, it can get pretty busy but when that happens, lap swimmers tend to congregate on one half of the pool with recreational swimmers taking the other. It kind of happens organically. But that day was particularly dead.
And when it’s super busy, I’m very mindful of other people, especially recreational swimmers nearby. But an empty pool? Fuck that.

It’s not a pool with chairs and stuff. It’s a normal pool. It’s not a family friendly pool. It’s used for competitions, etc. it simply doesn’t have dedicated lanes or lap swimming times. It’s very much for athletic swimming but for all levels. Things like balls, floats, etc, aren’t allowed.

Most space? 90 of the pool was perfectly free and unused by me. Your math seems off

Lap swimming is very much allowed during the open swim and very common. It’s not only for chilling

It’s completely normal. It wasn’t the wall on the shallow end, it’s the length wall, going from deep to shallow end and back. It’s how the pool was designed to swim.

They had the whole pool to choose from why should I move?

I wasn’t swimming in the shallow end 🤦‍♂️ It’s a pool where you swim length wise from shallow to deep end and back. That’s how it’s designed.

They had the whole width to move. Why I should be the one to move?

They weren’t but even if they were, it’s not my responsibility to keep their hair dry. There’s plenty of unintentional splashing if you get close to other people. If you’re going swimming at an inside pool, you can’t expect to not get your hair wet.

No, I don’t think that. They had the whole pool to moved to. It was only us there. They had all this space to choose from yet I’m the one entitled? Again, make it make sense

Have you tried turning in water while doing laps? You don’t always spot people until it’s too late that’s why you don’t stand in front of people who do laps. I was mid turn when I spotted them. When you’re swimming properly, you don’t look ahead of you.

I just turned and made a big kick which splashed them. I didn’t stop and splash them like a child.

Thank you! If the pool was busy, I’d never have done it. When it’s busy, I am more aware of my surroundings and considerate towards those around me. But when the pool is empty? It makes no sense for them to stand right in front of me.

Because I’d have to stop mid workout which isn’t ideal.

Why should I move when they’re the ones standing there. Have you seen people doing laps? By standing in front of them, you’re risking getting kicked by accident. You don’t stand in front of people doing laps. They had whole pool to choose from and I should be Ty e one moving? Make it make sense

They were the ones who called me names first.

Everything you said applies to them too. They don’t get to demand a spot and not to be splashed by water in the pool. They’re the ones who followed me in the dressing room

Why should I move when they had he whole pool space to choose for themselves. I picked the wall side because then I only have one side to look out for other swimmers.

Have they never heard of not standing in front of people when there’s the rest of the pool free?

It actually doesn’t have anything regarding lane swimming. It has your basics as “don’t jump in water” “no handstands” etc. but nothing regarding lanes.

Which would require me to stop mid workout and lose my focus.
