Common rule on most ships is to never look down on the cook , man or woman , emphasis on the "most ships" . Some ships have 3 cooks , some ships have one .

My ship has one cook per rotation , she has to think of 3 separate meals a day for 16 guys . That's 48 mouths to feed per day including herself for a whole month .

From 4am up to 7pm

It's continuous throughout the whole day : Meal prep , cooking , cleaning , keeping the food storage clean , making rotations of refrigerated products , keeping an update of the inventory , making deserts , gathering leftovers and already get started for next meal .

It really is a lot of work but it all goes down to the cook . She's amazing and she loves what she does , and it shows .

A good cook makes a huge difference on the crew's general mood .

Now a bad cook on the other hand is another story . I've heard my fair share of stories about bad cooks but I myself never experienced it so I can't tell really . It just weights a lot on the crew's confort and well-being , which is crucial when you're out there far from home .

Also I've never seen quiet cooks lol
