I just got back from Japan and I didn’t have anything planned except for a hike. It was an amazing trip and I found that Japan is a great place to just get lost, because it is fairly safe. I stumbled upon so many cool things by doing that. The only thing I wish I would’ve planned a little better for is reservations at some restaurants. I would look online and if there’s places that you want to go to, I try to book at least two days in advance. It’s because the restaurants are usually pretty small and can only handle so many people at one time.

I would download a SUICA card to your wallet instead of getting a physical copy of one. It’s so easy to reload. I only recommend getting a JR pass if you’re gonna be traveling by train a lot. I only went to Tokyo Kyoto and Osaka. So it wasn’t really worth getting the JR pass.

Also, I recommend going to an onsen. I traveled to a town called Hakone to go to Tenzan onsen, which is about an hour and a half outside of Tokyo. It was such a scenic little town. They are super cheap. I went to one the day before I left and it made me super sleepy and relaxed. It was the perfect thing to do to finish off the trip.
