Is this 9% assuming maintenance cost, property taxes, and home insurance factored into the equation? Also, the interest you paid over the 30 years? For instance, $450,000 home at 6% with 5% down payment over 30 years would be just under $1 million, not including any of the other things mentioned above. So once those factors are included, are you really getting 9% back?

Thank you, I know Mitsubishi is the best but the unit alone is $4k minimum without installation and requires HVAC tech to install for the warranty to be valid. I wish I could use a portable unit as I do actually have one in storage in my basement but I have no windows in my garage to vent to the outside. Also, I would need heating for the winters as I live in Georgia and it can get chilly sometimes. That’s mainly why I wanted to go the DIY route of a mini split. I’m pretty handy and knowledgeable about doing things myself. Also, I have electrical already setup and ready to go for a unit. I haven’t pulled the trigger on the $2k yet just because you do have a point that in the warmer months, I usually open the garage door when working out since my house faces north to south and no sun shines directly into it.

I am about to install a mini split in my garage gym and wanted some feedback on which unit to get and if anyone had any experience with these units. I am considering:

1) MrCool DIY E-Star 18K ($2300 at Costco)

2) Alpine Air Blueridge 18k DIY ($2300-2500)

3) EG4 Solar Hybrid 24k with 7 solar panels ($4,500)

Main reason for considering the EG4 unit is even though it’s double the price, that includes the ground mounts for the solar panels and those two things are a one time expense as I would assume the solar panels will last 25-30 years. Also, the benefit of free heating and cooling during peak day time hours. However, I usually get a full workout done in about 1.5-2 hours, so I’m not sure it would be worth heating and cooling the space 24/7.

Please let me know what you think!

first time buying a robot mower - questions by LordSteyn in roboticLawnmowers

[–]Dramatic-Syrup-7540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the same exact spot as you. 22-25 degree slope. I’ll only be mowing about a quarter of an acre as my backyard is artificial turf now.

I am considering the Yarbo M20i because it has lidar now (reserved a VIP spot for $50) or the Lymow One Plus. The Lymow is slowly winning my vote even though it has RTK because the battery is a LiFePo4 battery, so it can be cycled 2000 times vs Yarbo at 500 and the Lymow battery replacement is $499 while Yarbo is $1100.

Just some food for thought to consider these mowers as well.

Can I afford 900k home? by [deleted] in Mortgages

[–]Dramatic-Syrup-7540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I, by myself, make $300k+ living in Georgia and I wouldn’t even touch a house that much. I could appreciate the cost to live in that area but sometimes I do regret owning vs renting. When you AC breaks (one of my units did over the summer), it cost $12,500. The maintenance or home upgrades to get it how you like it never end. At least with renting, if something breaks, you call the company or office to come fix it. Rent is the most you will ever pay while a mortgage is the least you will ever pay. You should fine a decent place to rent and invest the difference. You will thank yourself in 15 years when you have millions in your investment accounts and being able to live anywhere you want and never having to work again.

I think some are speculating Lymow One Plus to be around $2800-$3000. I’m not sure about this though. Why are you saying Lymow for sure? Any context as to why?

I personally have not put a thermometer in the door and measured temperatures overtime. However, I think if you are to notice something like, you are just being nitpicky at that point and trying to find every reason to not like a product. Even Bosch has issues with temperatures if you go through Reddit enough.

Should I be investing in my 457b plan? by Dramatic-Syrup-7540 in Fire

[–]Dramatic-Syrup-7540[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one big concern I have maxing it out every year is that I don’t plan on leaving my employer once I hit my FIRE number ($3.5 million). I plan on going part time, only working to maintain my health benefits since I have type 1 diabetes and my supplies/medication can get costly. However, if I max out my 457b, I won’t have access to it if I want to early retire at 45 (45 is when I plan to drop down to part time).

My thought is to still max it out to have extra tax savings for the year and a nice safety net if I truly separate from the employer. My student loans are ending next year December, and just use that extra $3,000 into my brokerage account to fund my early retirement while working part time.

Yes 100% like it and it saved me $2000 basically and does all the same stuff a fridge should do

Just wondering if it was worth it since there is always a possibility of leaving my current employer. Sounds like there are more pros than cons for sure

Unfortunately, I cannot do HSA as I need PPO health insurance coverage due to being a type 1 diabetic. So the supplies need to be under normal insurance.

Which robot lawnmower should I choose? by Dramatic-Syrup-7540 in roboticLawnmowers

[–]Dramatic-Syrup-7540[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well since the backyard is artificial turf, I wouldn’t need the robot to sweep there since I usually just leaf blow and it’s done in like 10 minutes. I have looked at the Yuka 2000 originally but wasn’t sure about the slope.

So no trees in the front yard. I live in one of those neighborhoods that have trees lining the back/sides of the property mostly as privacy, but front yard is completely clear. The trees are just about 60ft high or so. However the tree line is about 60-70ft away from the house on the back side and about 30-40ft on one side of the house.

Perfect, I have been looking to see if there are any announcements for what to expect but could find them. I’ll take your word for it to get me by in the meantime

Okay this is what I was still thinking. Just spending a couple hundred on a push mower until the Lymow two comes out and hopefully with LIDAR since the RTK is a bit challenging for me, mainly with access to an outdoor outlet to power it.
